I frown and she goes back to the car to grab something, looking much happier when she walks back over to me with her phone in her hand.
“What are you doing?”
“Come here,” she orders, ignoring my question.
I do as I’m told and she pulls me into her, taking my hand to lift my arm over her neck, then she locks our fingers together and holds her phone out in front of us.
“Damn it, you’re too tall for me,” she complains, moving in front of me to place her hands on my shoulders. “Can you pick me up?”
“You take your selfies pretty seriously, huh?” I taunt, grabbing the backs of her thighs to wrap them around my waist.
She flicks my nose to shut me up and holds her phone out again, leaning her forehead against mine while she tilts the camera to get the wall in the background behind us. She takes the picture and drops her eyes to look at it, smiling to herself in a way that hurts my fucking heart. I don’t know what’s happening right now, but before I can think too much into it, a police siren rings out from somewhere and Jordyn slaps a hand over her mouth, quickly looking from me to the graffiti on the wall and then down to the bag at my feet.
“Oh, fuck.” She panics, jumping down to kick her shoes off like she’s about to make a run for it. “Should I call my lawyer? How much jail time are we gonna get for this? Oh my god, my mom’s gonna lose her shi–”
“Jordyn?”
“What?”
“They’re up there,” I inform her, trying my hardest not to laugh while I point up to the highway bridge above us.
“Oh,” she says, breathing long and deep with her hands fisted on her hips. “I knew that.”
I laugh for real this time and she flips me off, folding her shirt over her chest to hide her body from me while she walks back to my car.
“Baby, don’t be mad,” I call, still chuckling to myself while I grab my shit and move to follow her.
“Don’t call me baby.”
“Why not?”
“Because I don’t like it.”
I smirk and catch up to her to snatch her waist, pulling her into me to back her up against the passenger side door. “You’re hot when you lie to me.”
She feigns a glare and shoves me back, climbing inside to pull her seatbelt on over her body. I jump in next to her and she hits me with the silent treatment, but I don’t miss the way she turns her head to the side to hide the amusement there.
Fuck, I love that look on her face.
I’m pretty sure what I feel for her borders obsession, an unfamiliar need to be around her as much as I possibly can. I don’t know how she’s managed to rein me in like this when she doesn’t even like me half the time, but I don’t hate it, so I don’t fight it.
I just hope she doesn’t rip my heart out and take it with her when she decides she’s done with me.

Kian fluffs my hair out for me and taps my ass, slinging one arm over my neck while we walk through Sienna’s front door. Loud music and drunken laughter fills my ears and I look around, resisting the urge to roll my eyes when I spot Penelope grinding on Sienna in the middle of the living room while Noah watches from his seat on the couch. I’m pretty sure she’s trying to make him hot for her and it looks like it’s working, but then he looks my way and glares, slowly leaning forward with his elbows on his knees and his eyes on my form. My hair is dead straight, my eye make up a little darker and riskier than usual, and I’m wearing a short red dress with a low back line and two criss cross straps over my shoulders. Honestly, I picked it out at the mall today because I knew Xander would like it on me, but it seems my ex–boyfriend’s not a fan.
“Remind me why I’m here again.”
“Because you promised you’d learn to socialise more and play nice with your friends,” Kian tells me, leading me through the house to take me to the makeshift bar set up in the kitchen.
“Right,” I mutter, leaning back against the island to watch while he pours us a vodka soda each.
My phone buzzes in my purse and I pull it out to check it, playfully shoving Kian’s head away when he cranes his neck to snoop over my shoulder.
Xander: Baby.
