Smart people.

The older, dark haired woman behind the counter turns to see what happened to the noise level in here, then she jumps a mile off her feet. The plate she was holding slips from her hand and smashes on the tiled floor, breaking the silence.

“Goddamnit.” She hisses, dropping her eyes to avoid ours. “What’d he do?”

I cock my head, studying the woman I know is Sheila, Freya’s grandmother. She looks nothing like her, but then again, Freya’s the spitting image of her mother, so it’s no surprise she doesn’t resemble anyone from her father’s side. This side of the family work hard and earn what little they have, day in, day out, something Freya and her lazy ass mother will never do.

“Where is he?”

“Jesse!” She calls, unable to hide the shake in her voice.

“What?”

“Boy, get your stupid ass out here.”

Freya’s cousin pushes through the storage room door a moment later with his backpack slung over one shoulder, probably planning on heading home after his morning shift. The scrawny little shit gets one look at us and freezes where he stands, the clear flash of fear in his eyes making him look a lot younger than seventeen. He tries to make a run for it, but he doesn’t get far before the boys hop over the counter to grab him. They take an arm each and drag his ass out to the front, then Callie kicks out a chair and they drop him down in front of me. He panics and makes another pathetic attempt to escape, so I grab him by the throat and shove his ass back down, tipping my chin at the boys to go ahead and do their thing.

“Okay, okay, I won’t- fuck, you gotta be kiddin’ me.” He mutters, watching Kai tape his wrists to the wooden arms while Wren does the same with his ankles. “Fuckin’ Freya. I swear to god I’ll-”

Callie glares at the mention of her name, snatching the tape to tape the fucker’s mouth shut. “Shh.”

Kai laughs and searches his jeans while I glance around to check our backs, not surprised to find the place completely cleared out except for Sheila and a booth full of high school girls sitting in the corner, whispering shit to each other while they watch our every move. The hot blond in the middle ignores her friends and cocks her head, eyeing me and my form while she blatantly swirls her tongue around the straw of her strawberry milkshake. I’d have been all over that a month ago, taken her to the bathroom and fucked her over the counter just to toss her back to her friends right after, but now, she doesn’t even exist on my radar.

Because all I see is her.

Callie follows my line of sight and glares, snatching my jaw to pull my eyes down to hers. She slides her free hand around my neck and I smirk, taking her waist to pull her into me.

“You jealous, punk?” I tease, lifting her up to drop her ass down on the counter.

She doesn’t answer that.

Instead she wraps her thighs around my waist and takes my mouth with hers. She teases my tongue and snatches my bottom lip between her teeth, adding a little pressure in warning.

“Mine.”

My eyes darken and I slide my hands over her thighs to grip her ass, yanking her into me. “Say that again.”

“You’re mine.” She says clearly, gripping my hair to keep me right where she wants me. “All fuckin’ mine.”

I smirk, dropping my forehead on hers just to look at her because fuck me, this girl’s stolen my heart and she doesn’t even know it.

Just then, Wren clears his throat and I slide my eyes to him, raising a brow. “You sick, brother?”

He grins, laughing. “If you two lovebirds are done staring into each other’s eyes, we got the phone.”

Callie ignores that, craning her neck to get a look at the video playing in his hand.

Wren frowns and she lifts her eyes to his, grinning. “What? It’s hot.”

He eyes her right back, amused. “You watched it?”

“Course’ I fuckin’ did.” She laughs, shrugging. “I didn’t stick around for the good part or anything but I’m no saint.”

He snorts at that, smirking. “Yeah, we know.”

She smacks his chest and hops off the counter to stand on my other side while Kai rips the tape from Jesse’s mouth, laughing when he screams like a baby.

“Alright, let’s get this over with.” He sighs, feigning boredom. “Who’d you tell and who’d you send it to?”
