I didn’t need to clarify who.
I cracked my neck as the bright light of the afternoon sun came through the window.
“Yeah,” Mikhail answered gruffly.
That surprised me. “Why?”
I trusted Mikhail’s judgment, but I still wanted to know what changed that made him say yes. We both knew going to California was a risk. Francisco could turn on us at any moment. He could have warned Luca.
But it had been our only lead so far.
“Something he said to Catalina when we were there.”
I turned to him. “What did he say?”
“He loves her.”
“What?”
Mikhail shot me a look. “Yeah. He said he loves her.”
“And you believe him?”
He nodded.
“How does Catalina feel?” I asked.
He shrugged. “You know how she’s been.”
I looked back out the window at the front door, not saying anything. I knew how she’d been. And I didn’t know how she felt about this. Worse yet, I didn’t know if she wanted to have a relationship with Bianchi. Or hell, if she wanted to live in California. The selfish part of me didn’t want to share her.
Not with anyone besides my brothers.
And I didn’t want her to have a relationship with a man I didn’t know very well, even if he was her father.
I knew Mikhail felt the same.
He sat up in his seat before I could say anything else to that. “He’s here.”
Sure enough, I caught sight of Luca getting out of his car and limping to the restaurant. What a stupid, arrogant fucker. He was out and alone.
It would be so easy for us to just grab him.
We waited until the door closed behind him before getting out of the car ourselves. I met Mikhail’s eyes over the roof of the car.
Fuck.
We were going to get that location, no matter what.
Quickly, quietly, we walked inside the empty restaurant. Luca didn’t know this restaurant belonged to the Bratva. It had been cleared out, and the meat freezer had been prepared specifically for him.
No need to transfer him anywhere. We were going to start the fun as soon as we got him.
Bianchi was in the corner, facing us, while Luca had his back turned.
We walked over to them without making a noise.
“I see you’re impressed with my work,” Luca boasted. “I told you. I’m not like any of the others that you’ve contacted before. I always deliver on my word.”
