“I’ll send you the digital pictures via a link in your email,” the photographer said. “You can order prints from us or print them yourselves. These photos are yours.”
Leanne smiled brightly, and Trev swore he saw stars in the dude’s eyes as she said, “Thanks. I can’t wait to see them.”
“You two look great together,” the man added.
Do we?Briefly, Trev imagined a big, framed photo hanging on the wall of the condo. Maybe she’d get a smaller one for her desk—
Breathe. You did it without giving her any clue how much of a mess you are. Maybe that was unfair? Like selling a car without disclosing it’s been in a wreck.Making a face, he tried to shut his brain up.Can’t you leave me alone for even one day?Thankfully, the awful voice that whispered how he was doomed to misery and failure quieted.
The chapel owners came to greet them afterward and thank them for their patronage. “Congratulations again. We hope you’ll be happy together.”
“Thanks.” Trev offered his hand to Leanne and experienced a gentle frisson when she interlinked their fingers.
“We did it, hon.” She squeezed lightly as he followed her out into the fading heat of a late-summer day in Vegas. “Our flight back leaves at eleven tomorrow, but we still have tonight. Anything you want to do?”
“Besides you?”
Her smile gained teasing layers, and she canted her head to gaze at him through absurdly thick lashes. “That’s a given. So, yeah, before that.”
“Nah, I got to pick last night. It’s your turn.”
She lifted his hand to her lips and brushed a kiss across his knuckles—such a romantic gesture that his breath caught. “Is that the secret to our lasting love story? Taking turns.”
“Hope so,” he said, more seriously than he intended.
“Then…I’ve always wanted to try the High Roller, but the friends I vacation with would rather go clubbing or try their luck at the casino. Are you afraid of heights?”
“Might be the only thing I’mnotafraid of,” he joked. “When I was doing more in the lawn care and maintenance line, I went up trees to trim them and on roofs to clean gutters.”
“According to the reviews, it’s not scary even if you’re acrophobic because the pods are slow-moving and very stable. Should I book the tickets?”
Trev nodded. “Go ahead, I’m looking forward to it.”
She bounced a bit, endearingly enthusiastic at the prospect of riding an upscale, touristy Ferris wheel. If he’d judged by her looks, he never would’ve imagined Leanne would want to do something like this. Then again, he’d skirted perilously close to pissing her off this afternoon by assuming she was a cover girl who preferred not to get her hair wet.
Note to self: don’t presumeanythingabout my wife.
“If we time it right, we’ll be able to take some gorgeous selfies at sunset. Afterward, we’ll find something delicious for dinner, and then—”
“I’ll make you mine.” He couldn’t stop the words, even if they made her mad.
Thankfully, she slanted a sizzling look in his direction. “Sounds perfect. The paperwork’s already in order and everything.”
“Do you come with a warranty?” he joked.
She shook her head. “Sorry, some wear and tear is inevitable. What’s the phrase in Latin? Caveat emptor. Yeah, that’s the one.”
“I have no idea what that means,” he admitted.
“Let the buyer beware.”
“But Ididn’tbuy you. There’s no way to put a price on perfection.”
“True enough. The first thing, not my perfection,” she added quickly. “It’s my choice, and I’m giving myself to you.”
Giving myself to you.
It took all Trev’s self-control not to push her against the chapel wall and kiss her like the world was ending. They were probably used to PDA here, but if he started, he might not be able to stop, and it would not be ideal to do it for the first time as a married couple in a public bathroom. Doing that at Danica’s party had been wild enough.
