“Samantha Williams.” Callum squeezed her thigh in mock frustration. It was the first time he had ever said her full name, and she was surprised by how much she liked it when he did.

She shrugged her shoulders with a smirk. “Henever asked me out.”

“Doesheneed to?”

“Yes.Hedoes.”

Callum quirked a brow at her. “I thought you didn’t need labels?”

Sam paused. She had definitely said that exact phrase the night before. “I don’tneedthem. But Iwantthis one.”

“Can you two lay off each other for just a few hours?” Drew asked.

“You’re just jealous Melanie is stuck on weekend rotations and couldn’t make it.” Micah stated with a laugh.

“Yeah yeah yeah.” Drew rolled his eyes.

“Who’s Melanie?” Sam asked as they were handed the menus. It took considerable effort to pull her gaze from Callum.

“Drew’s girlfriend. She’s a nurse at the children’s hospital down here. Got stuck on a full weekend rotation, so we won’t be seeing her this trip,” Micah answered.

“I was wondering if we were going to meet up with Mel,” Kristin said as she and Micah decided on which appetizer they wanted.

Sam sucked in a breath when she saw the prices listed next to the items. Most entrees were around fifty dollars a piece, if not more, and that didn’t even count the sides. Once you added in drinks and dessert, each person would most likely be spending well over a hundred.

She looked around to find a plethora of people she didn’t fit in with. These were the exact people she’d always wanted to impress. She didn’t know what half the items on the menu were. She didn’t know how to properly pronounce her order. She didn’t know what wine paired with what. She didn’t want to have a water glass, a wine glass, and a sweet tea glass. She didn’t belong here.

“Callum?”

He looked at her then. His excited and somewhat devilish smile from staring at the spot between her legs quickly turned down.

“Are you uncomfortable?” he whispered into her ear.

“It’s just–” She once again looked around, trying to find the words to explain it. She didn’t want to admit it out loud. She was a fucking foster kid. She could usually adapt to any situation thrown her way. But for some reason this beautiful room with the chandeliers and the beautifully dressed people and the thousand dollar bottles of wine was too much.

Callum squeezed her hand then and reached into his back pocket to pull out a card. He tossed it between Micah and Drew.

“Get whatever you want. Doesn’t matter the cost. Put it on my business card.”

“Where are you two going?” Micah asked in confusion. Kristin just had a devious smirk on her face.

“Text me when you all are done and we’ll meet you at the bar.”

He grabbed Sam’s hand and pulled her toward the front of the restaurant before anyone else could utter another word.

Chapter 48- Sam

“What are we doing?” Sam asked while being gently pulled past the numerous people still waiting outside for a table.

“You weren’t comfortable there,” Callum stated as if the answer was obvious.

“Drew said that place was hard to get into.”

“It is.” Callum nodded.

She stopped then.

“Callum. Why did we leave?”
