Soon, she goes up stairs to get their bags before the two of them leave. I hope they have loads of fun. The couple needs time alone together.

Chapter 6

Austin

After a lot of debating back and forth with mom over allowing Erica to stay in the house, she finally relented. But only because of Cordelia.

Most of our stuff has already been moved out of the house and is currently waiting in storage until mom decides on a place she wants. I’m okay with whatever she picks. Besides, it’s her house, not mine.

“I guess this will work.” Erica huffs, looking around the living room.

“Better than being in the street.” Mom snarls from the doorway.

“I think it’s a beautiful home.” Lily says sweetly to my mom who beams at her with pride.

I’m glad the two of them get along so well. Mom never even remotely liked Erica but she tolerated her because of me.

“You just don’t have any taste.” Erica curls her lip, looking over at Lily who keeps a sweet smile on her face, not reacting to Erica’s jab.

“Brandon should be pulling up any minute with Cordelia if you would like to see her.” Erica asks, looking over at me.

I just shake my head yes. I’ve been afraid to do so until the DNA comes back which should be any day now.

A few minutes later a car pulls up.

“Come get this screaming brat.” Says the guy that I assume is Brandon as soon as he steps out of the car.

Before anyone else can do so, Lily heads straight for the back door of the car, pulling it open.

We can hear Cordelia screaming her head off as Lily unbuckles her from her seat, putting her on her shoulder holding her close. She stops crying almost immediately.

Lily walks straight over to me, staring me in the eyes as she does so. It strikes me how very much I had rather Cordelia be our child instead of mine with Erica.

Holding out my arms, I take Cordy from Lily’s arms, holding her close to my chest. As I look down her sweet little eyes open staring back at my own.

She looks so much like me, I almost gasp. She is definitely mine and I don’t need a DNA test to tell me so.

“Oh, my.” Mom whispers, looking over my shoulder.

I look back at her and see tears gathering in the corners of her eyes.

“She’s perfect.” Mom says, kissing her on the head.

“Yes, she is perfect.” I say back, smiling down at the beautiful child in my arms.

“Ready to pay me now?” Erica asks sweetly, watching us with the baby.

I am so very tempted to say yes, just to get her to go away and leave my child here with me. Lily must realize something, since she is the one to speak first.

“We are not paying you anything. You have a place to stay for now. We will contact you as soon as we hear from our lawyer.” Lily says angrily.

“I think it’s time you left! This has nothing to do with you regardless of you being his fiance!” Erica screams, grabbing Cordy from my arms.

I’m unable to stop her from doing so as I hear the baby beginning to scream once more. My heart nearly breaks as I stand there watching the three of them go into the house, slamming the door behind the.

“You’ll get through this baby.” Mom says, laying her hand on my arm.

“She looks just like me mom.” I whisper to her while still looking at the front door.
