Only minutes later, they announce that we have a daughter.
“A boy and a girl!” Holly whispers excitedly.
After I cut the cord and they wrap our little girl up, a nurse helps me to move all of our things to the recovery room.
It takes a while before Holly is moved into the room. They take the babies to weigh and measure them. Another nurse cleans Holly up, and we wait until the numbness starts to fade before we can switch rooms.
Easton and Braxton come into the recovery room shortly after we get there, and their tears well when they see our babies for the first time.
“They are beautiful,” Easton whispers.
“It’s a good thing we decided on names for both sexes,” Braxton says with a light chuckle.
“Naomi Kyla Cooper and Hunter Dante Cooper,” Holly whispers with a smile.
“It’s perfect for them,” I say softly.
We take turns holding the babies, and also try to see if they will feed off of Holly before we move into a regular room.
Once we are settled, Kyla and Dante come in along with Kyla’s men.
“Oh my, they are so precious,” Kyla says, tears falling from her eyes.
“What are their names?” Dante asks, taking Hunter.
We tell them and, just as predicted, they both start crying. Of course, Dante turns away to wipe his eyes.
“You both have been my family and my rocks for so long; it only makes sense. You guys mean so much to me, and they are lucky to have an auntie and uncle just like you two,” Holly says.
“I’m so proud of you,” Dante says to Holly.
“They are going to be the most spoiled babies ever,” Kyla says, causing everyone to chuckle.
“They already are. They have so many great people in their lives to look out for them,” Braxton says.
“Where are my grandbabies?” comes a shout as Kyla’s mom comes rushing in.
“Mom,” Kyla starts, but her mom interrupts her.
“No, don’t start. Holly is a daughter to me; these babies are my grandbabies. I don’t care if they are blood. They don’t need to be for me to claim them as family,” she says.
Shortly after that, Easton’s parents come and swoon over the babies.
We might have a different kind of family, but sometimes a family is what you make it.
Holly
I’m exhausted, but I couldn’t be happier.
My babies are here and healthy, and my family is here. Everyone who is important in my life is here.
My eyes start to close after a while, and I hardly notice when everyone leaves but my men.
It’s not until a couple hours later that I wake up to the sound of crying, and open my eyes to see my men desperately trying to calm the babies.
Easton gives me a sheepish look. “Sorry, we tried to get them to rest as long as we could, but they are getting hungry.”
“Give me Hunter,” I say, holding out my hands since he is the one crying the most.
