“What’s going on?” Helen asks, and comes to a stop.
“We are getting you checked out. This is the best OBGYN in the state. We want the best for any child of ours,” Easton explains.
“But I like my doctor,” Helen protests.
“We need the absolute best for any woman carrying our child,” Braxton says in a tone that indicates that there is no arguing with him.
“We can’t,” she says, and tries to pull away, but I grab her arm.
“Why can’t we get checked? You should have realised we would want to provide everything we can offer for the woman carrying our baby,” I say, curious as to why she has gone pale.
“We have the machine set up for the ultrasound, and my nurse Sandy here will take your blood,” the doctor explains.
“There’s, we, I,” Helen stumbles over her words.
“Helen, what’s going on?” Easton asks, moving closer to her.
“There’s no baby.”
She says the words so quietly that I almost don’t hear her.
I still when the words register.
“What do you mean, there is no baby?” I explode.
She flinches at the sound of my voice. “Well, see, I needed you back; you guys are mine. There was no way that I was going to let that whore take you from me. Everything was fine until she came along. Then, suddenly, I wasn’t good enough.”
“Explain everything,” I say in a cold, hard tone.
“I-I put something in your drink so you would pass out and not remember anything. Then, I had the important parts undressed and threw a condom on the floor with lotion inside. We didn’t have sex. I couldn’t even get you hard,” she says, crossing her arms over her chest.
A shudder of disgust rolls through me, but I also feel relieved. I didn’t fuck her. I have been feeling disgusting and dirty ever since that night. I haven’t been able to touch anyone for a long time. But now to know that it was all a lie that had held me back from giving into our relationship with Holly.
“We aren’t yours. You won’t ever have us again. You cheated. You made our lives miserable. You better get the fuck out of our lives. We never want to see you again,” Braxton says in a hard tone.
“B-but my stuff,” she pleads.
“We will send your things. I don’t want to look at you ever again,” I hiss.
The doctor must have left some time during the confession, but comes back out when Helen runs out of there.
“Sorry about that,” Easton starts. “We needed to be sure.”
The doctor shrugs.
“You would be surprised at how much this happens,” he says with a chuckle.
We nod our heads as we leave. I stand outside and breathe in the fresh air.
Fuck, I’m finally free of that bitch.
“We need to find Holly,” I state.
“Fuck,” Braxton rubs a hand over his face.
“What?” Easton asks, looking at him.
“She’s gone. She quit. I found out this morning,” he says.
