Chapter 11

Madeline

“This is Runway?”

Wide-eyed I stared at the three-story building on the corner. Unlike the last time, there was no side street and psychic shop. Men wearing suits, whose arms were decorated with young women wearing elegant dresses, graced the front of Runway. Flashes from cameras held by ambitious members of the paparazzi vying for the best picture of whatever celebrity was here lit up the evening sky. Some posed while others tried to avoid the cameras altogether. A line of people stretched along the sidewalk waiting for their turn to enter the exclusive club.

Joseph nodded. “Yep. You probably haven’t heard of them since they’re more local celebrities, but the club was opened by two former models, Jaxson Davidson and Chase Cartwright. They caused quite a ruckus in the political world a couple years ago when they came out as more than just business partners. Mostly because Jaxson’s father is a senator. Shit really hit the fan when they fell in love with Emma Fischer and the three of them formed a triad.”

“I think I remember you mentioning their names last week. Sounds like they caused quite a stir.”

Nathaniel chuckled from the front seat. “Oh, you have no idea. Things have settled down a little now that they’re married and living in California.”

We circled the block before coming back around and pulling up to the valet. Nathaniel handed the attendant his keys and both men held out their arms for me. I slid my hands through and clasped their biceps while they escorted me to the entrance.

Joseph leaned down to speak softly in my ear. “Remember, Black Light is entirely separate from Runway. Most patrons have no idea what goes on beneath their feet, which means that once inside, we don’t discuss the dungeon below.”

I nodded my understanding and we weaved through the crowd loitering outside the building and headed to a cordoned off section labeled VIP.

Nathaniel reached into his back pocket and pulled out what looked like a postcard, handing it to the bouncer who scrutinized it thoroughly.

“I need to see your identification please.”

Both men retrieved their wallets and handed their IDs to the large, ridiculously cut man. He looked up and down between the plastic cards in his hand and the men on either side of me. His eyes then landed on me and an approving glint twinkled in their depths as he scanned the length of my body pausing briefly at my chest. Two identical growls raced along my nerves before settling low in my belly. Joseph and Nathaniel placed a possessive hand on my hip and did their best to position themselves to cover me.

The security guard merely smirked, obviously enjoying raising their hackles. He flicked their IDs toward them and removed the satin covered rope from the metal stand and let us enter. I hid a smile when he winked at me as we passed him. No need to rile up my men even more, no matter how much I liked the fact they seemed jealous. They had nothing to worry about in that regard. Mild flirting aside, I had no interest in anyone but them.

I couldn’t withhold my curiosity. “What was the card you handed him?”

Joseph released his hold on me to open the door for us and we stepped through, Nathaniel’s hand burning hot on my lower back.

“We won a special VIP invitation to Runway from a charity auction a few months ago.”

“I’m glad the money went to a good cause.”

“It did. A young local girl needed money for cancer treatments. Emma, Jaxson and Chase’s wife, saw a flyer somewhere and contacted her mother to make a few donations. They ended up raising a little over $500,000 if I remember correctly.”

“Wow, that’s incredible.”

We passed through security and then I finally got a look inside Runway. Holy shit, I was speechless as my eyes shifted back and forth and up and down as they scanned the interior trying to take it all in. A huge dance floor, already crowded with people, opened up in front of us leading up to the stage. The neon lights of the bar to our left drew my attention in that direction. Everything was glitz and glam. The place was utterly breathtaking.

“Let’s get a drink before the concert starts.”

The crowd roaredas the final notes of the encore from the popular rock band, Crushing Stones, echoed through the room before dying out. During intermission, Nathaniel and Joseph had shared that Jonah ‘Cash’ Carter, the lead singer, also happened to be a member of Black Light. They didn’t know him personally, but they had seen him and his wife playing downstairs multiple times. This was also a rare appearance for them since they were touring to sold out shows. They’d only agreed to this concert as favor to Emma and to raise money for the charity.

“Did you enjoy the show?” Joseph leaned over and spoke directly in my ear in order to be heard over the noise.

I squealed in excitement. This was one of the best dates ever. “It was wonderful! I love their music so much. Thank you for bringing me to the show.”

“It was our pleasure.”

“You know what else would give us pleasure?” Nathaniel piped up, a wicked and devious grin gracing his face.

It wasn’t hard to figure out what he was referring to, so I held back my laughter while still trying to feign innocence. “Oh, and what would that be?”

He reached out for me and tugged me along behind him with Joseph following hot on our heels. The three of us weaved through the crowd and around tables to the right of the stage. It opened up to an empty area with a back door to our left. Near the door was a tightly pinned curtain against the perpendicular wall. When we stopped in front of it, I started to ask where we were going when Nat placed a finger over my lips to silence me. Joseph scanned the area and when he tossed out “all clear” over his shoulder we quickly dashed behind the curtain.

“Why are we in a janitor’s closet?” I stage-whispered, my eyes scanning the small room we stood in.

Instead of answering, Nathaniel pulled the mop that stood propped against the wall. A locking mechanism clicked and a door opened.

I only shook my head in amusement. “Good grief. This cloak and dagger stuff is crazy.”

We headed down the neon-lit stairs, the door closing and locking behind us. Once we hit the bottom landing, we entered through a familiar looking door.

There, Danny, if I remembered his name correctly, stood guard. Once we showed our IDs, paid my guest entry fee again, and finished stashing all our things in a locker, we set out to enjoy what I knew was going to be an incredible night. One that would define my relationship with these two Doms.
