Man, why did I act so desperate?
“Tell me,” Mia pushes.
“It was for a bet,” I mumble, staring at the dark contents in my mug like it’s the most fascinating thing in the world.
She blinks slowly, her eyes gleaming with confusion in the glow from the streetlight outside our window. “I’m sorry…a bet?”
“Yup.”
“What kind of bet?”
“Between him and the rest of the guys on the team.”
“What kind of bet?” she repeats, her tone sharper, though it’s easy to see she already knows. “Don’t tell me it involved who could sleep with you first.”
I glance back at her, then back at my almost empty cup. “Technically, it was a bet to see who could take my virginity, but toe-mae-toe, toe-mah-toe, so…”
She gasps. “They didn’t.”
“Oh, they most definitely did.”
“Blake,” she groans and puts her arms around me, pulling me into an awkward hug, the mug sandwiched between us.
Within a millisecond, my muscles melt into her, and I accept the hug, resting my temple on her shoulder as I soak up her warmth. Don’t get me wrong. I love having older brothers. But sisters who watch your back? After moving in with these girls, I can definitely see the appeal.
“How did you find out?” she whispers.
“He told me.”
“Before or after he slept with you?”
“Before,” I mumble, another wave of shame flooding my system.
Her perfectly plucked brows nearly reach her hairline as she pulls away from me and gives me a look that says are you crazy?
“I’m sorry. What?” she asks.
I laugh and take another sip of tea. Pretty sure it’s a stalling tactic, but I’m too stressed out to overanalyze my behavior.
“Blake,” Mia prods.
“I was in Burrows’ room, and we were making out when Theo kind of…barged in, told me about the bet, and forced Burrows to leave the room.”
“And then?” she pushes.
“Then I asked Theo to sleep with me.”
“You asked Theo to sleep with you after you found out there was a bet involving your virginity?”
“Yup,” I confirm for what feels like the hundredth time.
“W-why?” she asks, clearly exasperated and just as confused as I am.
And boy, am I confused.
It was stupid.
So. Damn. Stupid.
