“Why are you here?” I asked softly.
She rolled her eyes and placed the tray on the bedside table.
“Duh, you called in sick. Of course, I’m worried,” she said and sat on the edge of my bed.
I felt a gentle tug in my heart because of her words.
She may not be very vocal about it, but I know Leila considers me one of her closest friends. To me, she’s also the closest person that I consider to be my sister and friend. We may not be that vocal to each other, but we make sure to be always there for each other, just like what she’s doing now.
She let out a sigh. “Eat now,” she urged. I pouted and looked at the tray beside me.
Fine.
I opened the tray and stared at the food she had brought me.
“Thanks,” I said in a small voice.
She shook her head. “I don’t understand what’s happening between you and Lucas.”
I paused for a bit. “What?”
She shrugged. “Well, you decided to stay here in your room, and you’re not really on your best behavior lately. On the other hand, Alpha Lucas is also spacing out more often. So whatever lover’s quarrel the two of you have, I hope that you can already fix it. Because the whole pack is also getting stressed out over this,” Leila said in an exasperated voice while shaking her head.
I just stared at her in disbelief. Damn it. Our drama has finally reached the whole pack.
This is all Lucas’ fault.
Chapter Fifty Two
“Rogues!”
The whole pack was alarmed the moment the horn outside blew. We all went to our post and got ready for a possible attack inside the territory, although there were already warriors outside.
“Are they a lot?” Gamma Brian appeared in the field and looked at us.
“They are, Gamma, but the troops outside are still in control.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, sir!”
I heaved a sigh as I looked at the long and huge gate in front of us, which served as the primary entrance of the pack. There were warriors on top as well, overseeing what was happening outside. It was reported that the rogues were still a few meters away from the park, so our warriors outside could still contain them there. Hopefully, they’ll be fine, and they’ll be able to defeat them without the need for further reinforcements.
“Bring as many rogues as you can. We could use them for interrogation and our troops.”
I was stunned for a bit when I heard that voice. Almost all of us turned to the right. I saw Lucas, who had just gotten out of the mansion. I swallowed the lump in my throat and immediately avoided my eyes. Leila briefly glanced at me. She was beside me, and we were just here in the corner, waiting for the command of Gamma Brian. I could feel she wanted to ask me something but decided against it.
In the end, she just looked away and didn’t talk anymore. So I just focused my attention on the gate in front of us. I saw how the pack warrior above moved and blew the horn, signifying that the outside threat was gone. A lot of us were able to breathe in relief. A few minutes later, the big doors opened, and the outside troops of pack warriors came with a lot of captive rogues.
We all went to the side and just watched them take the prisoners to the underground cells. Gamma Brian was finally dismissed after that. Some of the warriors took a break while others proceeded to the training field again.
“Let’s go. It’s lunchtime,” Leila said to me, to which I nodded.
We were walking back to the mansion when we passed by Lucas, who was talking to Darius at that moment. I tried my best to ignore him, keeping an indifferent face as we continued walking back to the mansion.
We quickly went to the kitchen and saw our fellow omegas preparing the food we were about to cook. So I immediately grabbed my apron and tied it to my waist without wasting any more time.
“Let’s get this started then,” I said.
