“Then you should heal faster,” she said again, as if healing was as easy as picking a dessert.
I just sighed and just pouted. “What’s happening outside, huh? Is everything okay? Any rogue attacks?” I bombarded her with questions.
“Nothing yet. Continuous attacks are happening outside. Alpha Lucas is mandating everyone to be on high alert at all times. The security has been strengthened, too, and tunnels were dug already in case everything goes really bad during the battle.”
I nodded. I can’t help but frown. “I’m so sick of here,” I complained.
She shifted her weight on another leg.
“He’s just trying to protect you, Celine. So just focus on recovering. The upcoming battle will be tough, so please don’t be stubborn and just follow your Alpha’s order,” she stated.
I rolled my eyes. Yeah, I know that, alright. “Can you at least just fill me in on what's happening outside, please?” I begged her because being left out in the dark was maddening.
She nodded in agreement and started telling me the things that had recently transpired outside the territory.
Somehow, I got the chance to relax as I listened to Leila’s informative report. She stayed with me for almost an hour before she finally left because Beta Darius was calling her already. I wanted to ask her about her deal with the high-ranking officials, but I decided against it. I mean, she didn’t even force me to tell her my story so that I won’t do that to her as well.
When she left, Lucas went back and took over. I was frowning the whole time he was there while he was reminding me about what to eat and how to take care of myself. Tsk. He acts like a nagging boyfriend.
Hmm. Boyfriend, huh? I blushed at the thought.
It’s true, though. His attitude towards me felt like he was my boyfriend.
He was taking care of me and so gentle with me. They also told me how he swore to protect me at all costs the other day. Perhaps he was just being a good Alpha?
Or maybe I was denying his actions' true intention even though it’s pretty obvious.
Ughh. It’s frustrating because I also don’t want to assume. He’s just so different now. He seemed the opposite of that ruthless Alpha I used to know. He was like a different person in front of me.
“What?” he asked when he noticed me staring at him for a while now. I blinked multiple times and immediately sat properly. He was sitting on the couch across from my bed.
I made a face. “I think I’m okay now. No need to lock me here, you know. I’ll be fine,” I said, trying to flash a smile so I could convince him that I had recovered.
“That’s for the pack doctor to confirm tomorrow, so for now, just behave and rest, okay?”
My mouth parted in disbelief. “Are you for real?” I said exasperatedly.
But he just nodded and continued what he was reading. I frowned and crossed my arms while I stared at him. He doesn’t seem to mind it, though.
I did not say anything anymore and just left him there alone. I just got my book, which he lent me, so I won’t be bored. When afternoon came, the omegas just brought us dinner, and we ate it together like we have been doing since I was injured. It was a quiet dinner as usual. We had some omegas outside the door as we continued to eat. I just kept my focus on my food, and so did he.
When dinner was done, he immediately left the room, saying I needed to sleep and rest. I just made a face and watched him go. When he left the room, I stood and went to the bathroom to change my clothes and saw that my wounds were healing. I really hope so because I am dying to get out of here already.
I shook my head and left the bathroom when I was done. I was drying my hair with a towel when my eyes flew to the window. I saw how the moon was shining so bright. I stood up and walked to the window. I was greeted by the chilly breeze of the evening wind.
Damn it! I want to go out already! I took a deep breath before going back to my bed again. Before tiptoeing to the door, my eyes flew to the wall clock to check the time. I slowly opened the door and looked in the living room to see if there were no people around. When I was sure there was no one, I stealthily tried to get out of the room slowly.
I bit my lip and slowly walked toward the stairs.
“Where are you going?”
I almost jumped when I heard a familiar baritone. I slowly turned my head only to see Alpha Lucas standing a few meters away from me while crossing his arms against his chest.
I heaved a sigh before closing my eyes tightly.
“You startled me. I just wanted to have some fresh air,” I said.
His brow raised at me. “In this time? No, I don’t think so. You should be resting.”
