My breath hitched at the contact of our skin. I froze as I felt my heart racing against my chest. I immediately distanced myself from him, but he pulled me closer to him again. I sighed in defeat and decided to let him be this close to me… even though I was about to have a heart attack.
“Hey, nobody will ever hurt you again, okay?” he assured me and slowly kissed planter, a kiss on my head. I closed my eyes and savored the moment that he was this close to me.
At that moment, I felt that weird feeling inside my chest again. It was electrifying. It was enticing, as if his skin was made up of tiny threads of flames that could immediately set my body on fire with a single touch. These unknown feelings are slowly getting stronger, and I could feel them already. I don’t know if he could feel it, too, and I don’t know if he was feeling the same way I am feeling for him, but one thing is clear—I have feelings for him…something beyond respect or friendly admiration; it was more passionate than that.
Fuck. This is the first time that I actually acknowledged my growing feelings for him. I could hear my wolf purring and celebrating inside me as if she had known this fact for a long time and was only waiting for me to admit it. I bit my lips when I felt him tighten the hug.
“I don’t know what this is, Celine, or maybe I know, but I just didn’t want to accept it before,” he suddenly said before letting out a sigh again. “I just want to tell you that I will protect you from everything, Celine. Everything.”
And he kissed my head again.
I looked at him with my mouth parted a bit, still dumbfounded by what he said and what I admitted to myself.
“You can always count on me, Celine.”
Chapter Forty-Five
My legs were strained from the injury, and I also had so many wounds all over my body. I was not allowed to train or even work. I just stayed there in bed, and Lucas was with me all the time. He was there whenever I ate, whenever he was done with his job or something.
He’s just always there. I don’t know why but he’s just sticking with me.
“Don’t you have work?” I finally asked when we were done eating our lunch.
“I’m done,” he said confidently. He was even the one who fixed our plates.
I bit my lip. “I can do it,” I said and tried to take the plates away from him, but he immediately glared at me.
“Let me do this, okay? You haven’t fully recovered yet,”
“I am all healed,” I argued, but he shook his head firmly.
“Just rest, Celine, okay?”
“But I am done resting. I can still cook for you. I can still train. I need to train-”
“And you will, you will eventually be able to go back to your usual routine but. Those rogues made you so weak that you couldn’t use your own healing pace. So, please, rest and listen to me, will you?”
I pouted my lips and slowly avoided his gaze. Damn. I really couldn’t win an argument against him. Tsk. It’s irritating. I have been arguing with him for a while now, but he just won’t budge at all.
“I’ll leave you be,” he said before standing up and leaving the room.
And just like that… I was left, all alone, here again.
I groaned in frustration as I slammed my back on the bed. This is seriously boring the hell out of me. I’m dying to get out of there already.
Besides, I haven’t heard the latest information about the situation in our pack. So I can’t just stay here forever. A sigh escaped my lips as I grabbed a nearby pillow and hugged it. I just blankly stared at the ceiling, trying to think of something to do now that I felt so bored until I heard someone knocking at the door.
“It’s me,” I immediately sat up when I heard Leila’s voice outside.
“Get in!” I said, and just like that, Leila entered the room. She was still wearing her warrior dress. My brows furrowed at her.
“How’s the recovery, huh?” she asked. I rolled my eyes.
“You mean my life as a prisoner?” I shot back, which made her chuckle.
“Come on, stop wailing and recover faster if you don’t want to be a prisoner here forever,” she teased while walking toward me. She crossed her arms while leaning on the wall near the headboard of my bed.
“I’m so bored here,” I told her.
