Chapter Thirty
I didn’t know how I was able to survive that unexpected and awkward dinner with the Alpha. We spent the next few hours trying to polish our next moves. He also expressed his apparent hatred for the Crest Moon pack. After that, we were able to end the dinner quietly.
“It’s okay, Alpha. I’ll just return this downstairs,” I said when he was about to call the omegas.
His forehead creased. “Are you sure?” he asked, unsure if I could even do it, but I just nodded and smiled at him.
“Yes, I’ll be fine. Uh, thank you for dinner,” I sighed and looked down.
“Don’t mention it. I liked the way you fought for yourself earlier. Keep it up, Celine,” he said.
I blushed with his words.
“Thank you, Alpha,” I said shyly.
He just turned his back to return to his office chair. I pressed my lips together before putting back the plates and the leftovers on the cart.
“Get some rest after. You had a good fight,” he added.
I froze in my tracks. Damn it, Celine, get a hold of yourself. I mentally scolded myself before resuming my tasks.
“Thank you, I’ll do that,” I replied in a small voice.
I tightened my grip on the cart’s handle before I started pushing it outside his room. Unknowingly, I clutched my chest and felt my heart. It was beating so fast that I almost felt it wanting to go out of my chest.
I pouted and closed my eyes tight before I shook my head and pushed the cart to the elevator.
“Celine,” Leila greeted me when the elevator opened on the ground floor.
I creased my forehead. “Hey, what’s up?” I said and pushed the cart outside. Leila glanced at it and called some omega to get it from me. I smiled at them.
“Thanks,” I said and let them handle the cart.
Then, Leila tapped me on the shoulder. “Go and rest now,” she said before walking away to join the fellow omegas.
I did what she said and returned to my room. It was a tiring day, and I am now starting to feel my body aches. I slumped my back on the bed while blankly staring at the ceiling until I slowly felt the fatigue taking over my body. The ceiling was the last thing I saw before I finally dozed off.
I didn’t know how long I slept, but I just found myself waking up in the middle of the night. I yawned and stretched both of my hands. I must have really been so tired that I wasn’t able to change my clothes. I shook my head and got out of bed. I felt a bit sticky, so I took a quick bath. When I was done, I went back to bed again. I tried returning to sleep. My mind would just wander everywhere, not allowing me to have a peaceful slumber.
I sighed and gave up on my attempt to sleep. My eyes just wander around the room while filling my mind with random thoughts about what happened during the rescue mission in the Crest Moon pack.
Of course, Alpha Lucas did not fail to cross my mind. He seemed very disappointed and weak earlier. I mean, it was very unusual for him to lock himself in his room. It was as if he just got tired of everything.
He looked so frustrated that we couldn’t corner Michael and his family during our attack. I also couldn’t help but remember how he was so keen on exacting his revenge on the Crest Moon. I wonder why he’s this persistent in defeating my former pack. I couldn’t help but wonder if all these things were somehow connected to my father’s death.
I stared at the ceiling as those thoughts ran inside my head. I tried tracing every detail that I remember about that night, but I still couldn’t find the last straw that would connect them all. In the end, I just felt my head aching. Shit. I let out a loud sigh before sitting up on my bed. I couldn't relax. I closed my eyes tightly and decided to finally get off the bed.
It can’t be helped. There’s no way I could still sleep. I guess I should just try and get some fresh air or something. So I decided to go out of my room. I quietly strutted in the hallway until I reached the living room. I checked the surroundings and realized that the coast was clear.
When I was about to exit the mansion, I noticed the guards stationed there. I sighed. I knew this would happen. But I just couldn’t go back to my room and sleep. I needed to divert my attention to something else.
My eyes suddenly caught a glimpse of the mansion’s garden. An idea sparked in my head. I guess I should just go there instead?
Maybe the fresh air from the garden would calm me down. I stealthily headed to the backdoor so I could enter the park.
I was immediately welcomed with the cold breeze and earthly scent once I stepped my foot inside.
I walked on the lawn lazily, then stopped at the center so I could look up at the sky. It was a starry night, and the moon emanated an enigmatic sheen as it hovered over the sky.
