“You’re weird. Go to bed already. We’ll wake up early tomorrow,” I heard her say. I heaved a deep sigh and just nodded. I didn’t move until I had already heard her walking away from me. That’s when I was able to breathe properly. Oh god.
I felt like a thorn was pulled out from my chest. I leaned on the closed door to calm myself more. My system still couldn’t get over what happened earlier.
***
The following day, Leila asked me to be the one to cook breakfast for the Alpha. While cooking, I felt like my whole body just went numb. I was so nervous that I couldn’t care about anything already. All my attention was on the food and how I would deliver this to him later.
“Are you ready?” I almost jumped to my feet when Leila appeared beside me. I gulped hard.
“Y-Yes.”
“Very well, let’s go.”
The other servants immediately went to get all the food we had prepared. We placed the foods in the cart, and in two lines, we walked towards the dining room where the other servants were preparing the table. The Alpha was just on his way down when we reached the room. He was his usual unemotional self and was even still wearing a maroon robe. His hair was messy, and he looked like he had just woken up. Nevertheless, he still looked fresh.
What the.
My eyes widened when I realized what I had just thought. Why was I checking her out? Oh my gosh.
“Good morning, Alpha.” It was Leila who said that. That’s what pulled me back to reality. I stood straight and slowly walked towards the Alpha to present the main dish I had prepared.
I swallowed hard. “Good morning, Alpha.” I fought so hard to stutter as I began to present his breakfast. The whole time, I didn’t attempt to look him in the eyes, but I could still feel him staring at me. It was as if I was being watched and felt uncomfortable. I just wanted that to end already.
I sighed and took a step back when I was done. “Did you cook all of these?” I heard him ask.
I couldn’t say anything. Hell, I didn’t know if that was directed to me!
“She did, Alpha. It was all Celine,” Leila interrupted. I looked at her, and she just winked at me.
“Good. You may leave. Celine, you stay.
I froze on my feet, and I immediately looked at the Alpha. My breath started to become heavy. “M-Me?”
He stared right into my eyes. I had no way of averting his gaze. So I swallowed the lump in my throat.
“Yes. You,” he said without a blink. As if on cue, the other servants exited the room, and I was left with him in that vast dining room.
I felt my heart thumping so hard. I looked at him as he started to eat the food. There was an awkward atmosphere around us. Why does he have to let me stay here if he’s just going to eat? And why is it just me?
“What do you want in my pack? Tell me, what is your true intention here?”
I was pulled back to reality when he spoke. I was spacing out that I needed to compose myself first before being able to relax.
“W-What?” I said as I bit my lip. Shit, I couldn’t properly respond.
He stopped eating and looked at me. His forehead was creased already. I gulped.
“You said you were banished. Why?”
I wasn’t able to move. Shit. Does he really need to know that? Do I really need to tell him? Is it what it takes to let him approve of my staying in his pack? I couldn’t move. I don’t know what to do or how to say it.
“I-I…’’ I stopped as my voice wavered. I felt a larger lump in my throat.
“What? What are you doing here in my pack?”
“I-I just want a p-place to stay,” I finally said. My heart was pumping so hard that I barely couldn’t breathe already.
“And you expect me to believe that when you used to be in the pack that has been our enemy for years?” He stood. My eyes widened as he walked toward me. I bit my lip hard.
