After cleaning and doing our chores, we already went back to our quarters. I sighed and fixed myself before settling on my bed. I kept my head down because I felt all my roommates staring at me.

“So, have you really been a lone wolf ever since, Celine?” Joy finally said as if that question had lingered on her mind for a long time.

I swallowed hard and looked to Leila for help, who was reading something and didn't seem to care about what was happening. Honestly, it’s awkward for me to tell my story to them. I don’t know. I just feel uncomfortable.

I cleared my throat. “Uhm, no. I-I have a pack before, but unfortunately, I was banished.”

I saw how Joy’s eyes widened. “Oh my, I’m sorry,” she said and looked at me apologetically.

I sighed and stood. “Hmm, I’ll just go outside to get some air,” I said. I didn’t wait for their answer and walked out of the room.

I heaved a sigh again. I felt suffocated. The lingering pain of being rejected by my mate, humiliated in front of other werewolves and banished left a bitter taste in my mouth. But I guess I have to move on starting now. I belong to the Bloodmoon pack now.

My eyes wandered around before I finally decided to leave the quarters. I didn’t know what to do or where to go, and I just found myself walking on the green grass of the mansion’s backyard.

I stood there while looking at the flowers on the side. Huh. Funny how I didn’t imagine Blood Moon to even have a garden and a lawn in their pack. I really imagined the worst out of them since they are the Crestmoon pack’s enemy. But in the end, the pack I used to call my home banished me, and the enemy pack took me in.

Life is ironic.

I sighed as I stared at the flowers again for I don’t know how long. My mind is just filled with thoughts about my life. I was in the middle of reflecting on my first day here when I suddenly felt a strange presence. My forehead creased, and I looked around the garden. My eyes stopped on the figure of a man standing a few meters away from me. My eyes widened when I realized who it was.

It was Lucas! Oh my gosh. He’s here!

I suddenly staggered backward, nervous that he might still be angry at me. My heart was beating so fast that it felt like it was going to explode. I froze on my feet and stared at him. Both of his hands were in his pockets as he looked up at the skies. It was like he was looking at the moon above us.

I furrowed my eyebrows. What was he doing here, and why was he staring at the moon like that? Was he praying or something?

Curiosity getting the best of me, I slowly walked toward him. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting. Hell! I didn’t even know what I was doing approaching him when my entire being was screaming at me just to stay away.

But just as I was about to close the distance between us, he disappeared in a blur. The movement was too fast, and I didn’t even have time to blink. The next thing knew, I was already lying on the soft grass, and a heavy weight was pinning me to the ground, preventing my escape.

I dared to open my eyes, and I found myself staring at Lucas’s blazing blue eyes, terrifying and beautiful at the same time. My heart was pounding inside my chest, and I was sure that Lucas could hear it.

My breath got caught in my throat as I realized that his handsome face was only a few inches from mine, and his lips… oh my! His lips were just a kiss away. So help me God!

Chapter Eight

“What are you doing here?” The baritone voice coming from him sent shivers to my spine. I felt my lips shaking. I didn’t know what to do. It must have been my adrenaline to push him away slightly. When he noticed that I wanted to stand, he immediately stood.

I quickly fixed myself and stood as well while he was just staring at me. I kept my head down, but I felt his stare on me. It was as if he was surveying me from head to toe, making me really uncomfortable. I bit my lip hard and clasped my hands together.

“I-I was just l-looking around. I wanted to have some fresh air,” I almost didn’t recognize my voice. It was so weak and puny. Shit.

I felt like I was holding on to my breath, and my heart was beating irregularly fast! I needed to get out of here. That’s what I thought, but my legs weren’t cooperating. Heck, I couldn’t even move a toe!

“It’s late. Go back to your quarters. You have some work tomorrow, in case you forget,” he coldly said. I bit my lip even harder as I tried to look at him. I could feel the spite in the way that he said those. When our eyes met, I felt like a strong wind blew and sent me chills. His blue eyes were like ice. I couldn’t read anything on his face. It was as if he was emotionless. It was like he had built this huge tall wall in front of him. “What are you still waiting for?” he said, his forehead creased. I gulped hard and blinked multiple times.

“I-I will, A-Alpha!” I was so nervous that I wasn’t able to straighten my words already. I immediately walked out of the garden and ran back to our quarters.

I was panting when I closed the door behind me. I closed my eyes and clutched my chest. I could hear my heart beating so fast. Damn it.

“Are you okay? What happened to you?” I almost jumped in shock when I heard that.

“Leila!” I exclaimed in shock. She just looked at me confusingly.

“What?” she asked, confused. I bit my lip and averted my gaze.

“N-Nothing,” I said and slowly shook my head.
