I bit my lip. “I don’t know. I think he’s noticing too much, and he’s been curious! He asked if I stayed up late last night because I looked horrible!” I complained.

She scoffed. “Yeah, because you look horrendous! Fix yourself so he won’t be able to notice anything. I told you, he’s very observant. You need to be careful,” she scolded.

“What will we do now? I mean, later? I’m afraid he’ll be able to notice it again. I feel like I’m always under surveillance whenever he’s looking, and I feel like he knows something, and he’s just waiting for me to mess up and admit to it.”

Leila eyed me and took in a deep breath as well. “I told you, I will help you every night. Now, the last thing you can do is make yourself presentable and hide those dark circles below your eyes so Alpha Lucas wouldn’t notice. Now, can you do that?”

I wasn’t able to answer immediately. We were just staring at each other. Leila was just waiting for me to answer. In the end, I gave out a sigh and nodded.

“Okay, I will try my best,” I said. Leila just gave me a nod and tapped me on the shoulder. “Thanks,” I said and turned my back to go back to the mansion.

I went to my room first. I fixed myself and made myself look presentable. Leila has all the apparatus for the face, so I used that to hide the dark circles and all the signs that I was tired from the training last night. Right after that, I quickly went outside to do my tasks.

It was just timing that when I went out of my room, the Alpha was walking down the stairs. He was talking with the Beta. I bowed my head when they walked past me. Thankfully, they couldn’t notice me because they were too busy.

I was just relieved when they were out of the door already. I watched them go outside together with the pack warriors. Then I sighed and started doing my chores. Even though the Alpha got me as his personal cook, I still need to do other house chores like I used to do when I was still in the omega’s quarters. I mean, nothing changed. It’s just that I was already living in the mansion and that my primary job was to cook for the Alpha, but then I could and still need to do other chores since I am a servant here.

It was just a typical day for me. I was trying to condition myself the whole day, so I would have the energy to fight Leila later this evening. She said I was doing fine, but I know I still have a long way to go.

Leila is a great patient trainer, so I was really thankful for her. Because if she did not agree to train me, I wouldn’t be able to achieve this improvement. Although I am still not that excellent, I could say that I did improve, at least from how I trained back in Crest Moon. The rumors about Bloodmoon having strong werewolf members were true after all. Leila is a great example; she is an omega whose primary job is to do household chores for the Alpha, yet she’s a fearless fighter. Imagine how strong the actual warriors could be. They sure are on a different level.

Speaking of warriors, they were busy that whole day together with Alpha Lucas. I heard from the other omegas that there had been rogues wreaking chaos in the center of the town, so they went there to protect the ordinary wolves there. Thinking about it, I realized that what I heard before about how ruthless their pack was probably not true, at least on the point that they were wolves who prey on innocent wolves. They may be harsh and all, but then it was not in a bad way. They were giving justice. They were actually on the good side.

Damn. How could I miss that? And how could the other packs think so horribly ill about them?

I don’t know for how long I was thinking about that. I got so preoccupied with it that I didn’t even notice that I was done with all my chores. I spent my time looking for dishes to cook after. And when evening came, it was time for training again. Leila didn’t let me down when she said that she got my back because she did. She was able to sneak me out of the mansion.

It went fine the next night and the other nights as well, so I was really happy until that one fateful dawn. I was slowly making my way back to the mansion after another exhausting training.

“So this is why you were all tired and exhausted, huh,” an angry and cold growl greeted me when I opened the mansion’s door.

I stiffened on my feet, and I felt like my blood drained from my face when I met Alpha Lucas' dark deep set of blue eyes scrutinizing me. My eyes widened in shock. Fuck.

Chapter Nineteen

“Celine, Leila, the Alpha asked you to meet him in his office.”

Shit.

I almost choked on my saliva when I heard that. Leila and I looked at each other. My eyes were filled with anxiety, but she was just in her usual poker face. How could she be so calm when I could already feel my heart beating wildly out of my chest! Oh my gosh!

“Let’s go. Let’s get this over with,” she said nonchalantly.

I took a deep breath and simply nodded at her. She was the one who walked first, and I just followed her. It was my first time going to the mansion's second floor since it was Leila who was usually assigned there.

I was so nervous while walking up the stairs, but the girl I was with was just so calm.

“How do you do that?” I couldn’t help but whisper at her.

Her eyes darted toward me.

“What?” she asked, her forehead creased.

I pressed my lips together. “That, being calm. How can I do that?” I bit my lip.

She just stared at me for a bit and then shook her head. I made a face and just followed her through the second floor. When we reached there, we were greeted by a vast living room. The accent of the room was a mixture of red and black. There were a lot of rooms surrounding it, and there was even a balcony at the back of the long couch.

“Here, please,” the Beta said and pointed to the last room on the right side, near the balcony. I looked at Leila, but she was still wearing her poker face. That made me even more nervous. I swallowed hard and followed her. Beta Darius opened the door for us, and Leila walked in first, so I just followed her there. I even looked at the Beta, but he gave me a weird smile.
