Obviously, it was because look what I am doing now?
Accepted my new father, my mother’s choice to become a vampire, and now a mate.
I’m accepting everything faster than a squirrel getting drunk on moonshine.
“Anyway, we have some things to discuss.” Elder Rowan held up two fingers, signaling more vampire males to enter the room. These were tall, more muscular than the rest, and even some didn’t look like vampires.
“Werewolves,” Suron muttered beside me. “They are here because of the threat.” I continued to whisper to Suron what threat they were speaking of. I had noticed vampires were so secretive, not telling you anything until you needed to hear it.
Case in point… Sebastian. All those vampires keeping secrets.
Elder Rowan, who was shortly joined by his beloved, had us sit in the all too familiar sitting room with white couches, pictures of flowers, and the supernatural world of Bergarian. It seemed like a beautiful place. Maybe one day we would visit.
The large bouquet of deep red roses was taken away from the coffee table that separated us all. Justin, me, and Sebastian sat on one side while Rowan and Suron sat on the other. The rest remained standing, arms crossed with lethal written all over their bodies.
“You’re scaring her, Rowan.” Sebastian’s throat growled in warning. “She’s been through a lot today, and I prefer to get this over with, whatever it may be.” Justin placed his hands on his face, shaking his head.
“We had a visitor today,” Rowan began. My head ticked in confusion. None of my friends would come here. They didn’t know about this place, so what visitor could he be referring to? And why did it have to do with me? “A boy named Wyatt.” I gasped, my hand hitting my chest.
“Surely not.” I shook my head. “He’s nothing to me. I haven’t spoken with him—”
“It isn’t about speaking with him over the phone,” Rowan stated. “He saw you in your dream.” My mouth hung open, Sebastian curling his arm around my waist. My head leaned on his shoulder as I sat flabbergasted.
“My dream?” I said incredulously. “How could he know where I am based on a dream? A dream that is mine?” Sebastian growled, and my eyes shot to him.
“Did you know something about this?” I went to stand up, to get away, but he held me closer, refusing to let go. This was something serious. I couldn’t let this go now, could I?
“Your stepfather can read minds,” Sebastian said. “I just found out. My main concern was to find you first, then we would talk, but… we got carried away.” I hung my head away as if to hide any judgmental stares, but I was only greeted with smiles. “Justin can see things close to the surface of the mind, nothing deep, but he can see recent dreams,” Sebastian whispered like I was the only one in the room. “He saw Wyatt there, telling him you wanted nothing to do with him. Is that what you dreamed last night?” Nodding, my hand gripped the leather skirt.
Sebastian pulled it away, having me touch his chest above his heart. The vest he wore had been unbuttoned, and my body relaxed instantly, feeling his skin.
I guess the bond was crazy because instead of feeling scared, I felt safe. Safer than I ever had been in my life. He lifted me off the couch, settling me on his lap. Justin cleared his throat, shaking me from the thoughts of how Wyatt could even get into one of my dreams.
“That… how can you do that, Justin?” My finger pointed to him. “How can you read minds like that?” I pushed away the hair that continued to fall in front of my face.
“Some vampires have gifts, Chrissy. My gift is still growing, but I saw him. He had horns and a tail, correct?” Justin raised his brows, questioning. Closing my eyes tight, Sebastian continued to rub his thumb over my cheek. “Chrissy, he’s an incubus. He’s been forcing himself into your head, in your life.” Justin rubbed his hands together, bowing his head.
I let out a breath, one that had been tucked away as Justin spoke.
I have just found out that my stepfather is a vampire who took my mother as his beloved, having me live with them in a coven resembling Stepford. Now he’s telling me that my ex-boyfriend is an incubus.
Oh, and I just found out I do have a mate and the uncontrollable urge to pounce him is still there.
I had stopped breathing, my vision becoming black. I had handled so much shit in such a short amount of time I was ready to explode. Vampires, werewolves, incubus, mate… what more can I take?
“Christine, breathe.” Sebastian tucked me into his arms, holding me like a baby. He continued to whisper in my ear that everything was going to be all right, that I had a big family, and that everyone would protect me, especially him.
“Nothing will ever happen to you,” he purred. My fingers touched his neck, feeling the small vibrations. “I’d die before anything did, and I’ll kill the bastard myself.”
“Demons are real?” I finally whispered. “And he’s after me?” The room began to filter out. The wolves and vampires that walked with Rowan were given orders to guard nearby territories.
“Just be prepared. If he was able to find her in the dream world, he will follow Christine here. We have an overwhelming number of wolves and vampires in the area, so an incubus will stick out like a sore thumb.” Roman gritted his teeth. Loosening his tie, he nodded to one werewolf that was bigger than the others.
“Solomon, you sure you are handing your son this position tomorrow? I’d like for someone with experience to handle this.” The bald-headed wolf only chuckled.
“I’m fucking done being an alpha,” he chortled. “I’ll be there every step of the way. Enzo has been trained in Bergarian and just returned a month ago. He is more than capable.” Rowan rolled his eyes, not believing it. “Hey.” Solomon gritted his teeth. “You mind your own, and I’ll mind mine.” He stomped out of the room, my shuddering catching Sebastian’s attention.
Justin and Sebastian had a silent conversation, or Justin read his mind, probably the latter. I was picked up, still cradled to Sebastian’s chest, walking to the stairs. My eyes went over his shoulder, watching Justin’s body get smaller and smaller.
