Thirty-Four

“Put your toys away.”Titus glared at me, sending ice through my veins. I pulled in the dominance flooding his room.

As the last tendrils retreated into me, Titus’s office door swung open hard, banging against the wall. “Damnit, Titus, I told you not to summon her without me.”

Sunny stood in the doorway, radiant as ever. Like a goddamn twenty-first century goddess in Dolce and Gabbana.

I swear, if I liked ladies, Sunny would be at the top of my list. I might just have to tell her that sometime.

Her and Nikita…

Jesus Christ, Eden, fucking focus!

Titus cleared his expression to neutral. “I’m aware of your request, my love.” He shifted his glance to me. “Eden, please stop eyeing my mate like you want to eat her.”

Fuck.

I cleared my throat and glued my eyes to Titus’s forehead.

“She can look at me however she likes, Titus. Don’t change the subject.”

Yes! One for me!

“Sunsiray. I felt it pertinent to explain to Eden how much I valued her influence on Julian.”

“Oh, you’re so full of shit, Titus. You did no such thing. You were trying to get her to agree to giving up Laurel Cove because you’re afraid of losing your identity if you don’t keep going the way you’ve always been going. But I’m telling you here and now, if you don’t spell out the plan we agreed upon, I will tell Julian every one of your secrets so they can wield them against you.”

For the second time, I froze stiff in Titus’s office.

I hadn’t expected Sunny to speak to Titus like that. I didn’t know what I expected of their relationship really, but it definitely wasn’t that. In fact, I hadn’t really seen them interact at all, and I had no clue how Titus was going to react.

“I knew it was a long-shot, my heart, but I had to try.” Titus seated himself behind his desk, eyes softening as he looked at his mate. “You understand.”

Sunny stormed across the office, sitting in the chair next to me. I sat as well.

“Tell her, Titus,” Sunny nudged.

“It was Sherrie’s situation with your security guard that opened my eyes. When you messaged us all about their relationship, my first inclination was to separate them and keep them on their own sides of the river.

“But then I thought about how I’d feel if my mate were unreachable behind a ward. So, as much as I’d like to keep playing these games with Julian, I propose we dismantle the border and make these incursions a thing of the past.”

I shook my head. “Julian’s not going to go for it.”

“We know,” Sunny said.

“I hardly blame him. How do you expect him to accept that Titus isn’t a threat any longer when that’s all he’s ever shown himself to be?”

“What are you saying?” Titus asked.

“I’m saying you need a show of good faith. Something big. Something Julian can’t dispute.”

Titus’s jaw clenched, his mouth forming a thin slash across his face. “I’m not giving up my object d’soveriengte.”

“I didn’t suggest you should. But whatever you decide to do, it should be on that same level.”

Titus and Sunny locked gazes, communicating without words.

I was suddenly very hot. Sweaty hot. Fanning myself, I asked, “Did it just get very hot in here?”
