“We didn’t know he was FBI!” He looks fearful, like the FBI is going to hunt him down, but he shouldn’t worry. I know for a fact they aren’t leaving here alive.
Lukas turns to look at us while Creed pulls out a gun and points it at the guy’s junk.
“Anything else you want to tell us before I kill you? The more you make sure I know, the less I will have you singing like a canary from pain before you die,” he says, the look of sadness on his face is clear. He wants the guy to ignore him so he can continue torturing.
“He’s working with the mayor’s daughter. She has a hate on for your girl.” His eyes flash to me, something akin to remorse showing. “She wants you dead.” He directs to me, and I wince.
“Why?” Torren asks, and the guy shrugs.
“I don’t know. Something about taking the life that should have been hers? All I know is we were told you were to remain completely unharmed,” he states, still looking at me. “We wouldn’t have hurt you. I’m sorry.”
Creed’s gun pops off a few times, effectively killing them before he places the gun on his worktable.
“They were told to not harm her?” he scoffs while he speaks.
“Whatever he wants, hurting Haliee seems to be the last thing he wants to do. Physically at least,” Lukas says, and I laugh.
It’s completely humourless. “I’d prefer the physical pain over the shit he’s doing with Dad,” I seethe, and they nod in agreement.
“I don’t think he understands human emotions. He’s a complete sociopath, but he views you as valuable property so you’re to remain unharmed,” Ollie says, and I growl.
“What now?” I ask, looking around my guys, and Lukas takes another step to reach me, pulling me into his arms.
“Matt, do you and Creed want to go to Daniels’ apartment and see what you can find?” He waits for them to answer before continuing. “Good. Call us if you see anything or need backup. The rest of us will take Haliee home so she can get her mind off this shit.” He looks down to me.
“Um, not to point out the obvious but, you have dead bodies that also need to be dealt with,” I say, and he smiles.
“That’s something Matt and Creed love to do. They’ll handle that before going to check the apartment.”
I shake my head at how seamless these guys work together. I should be disturbed by it, but I can’t bring myself to care.
“Okay,” I say, pulling away from him with a quick kiss.
I watch as they all clean up and get ready for us to head out, before taking my phone out and sending a message to my bestie.
Me:
Wish I could join you. Love you, babe.
Kristen:
I will be home soon. Something doesn’t feel right about this vacation, and I just need to be home where I feel safe.
Me:
Come home and you can stay with me. I’ll protect my bestie from the big bads of shitty parents. <3
Kristen:
Hahahahaha good to know you’re the perfect repellant for weird as fuck parents.
Me:
You know it, bitch!
“Oh God,” I groan, taking in the box sitting at the door.
“Fuck,” Luke hisses as he moves in front of me, and the others band around me like some sort of bodyguard goon squad. It tickles my insides when they do that.
