Brie glanced out the window at the night sky. His words had reminded her of the vast time zone difference between them.
“What is the meeting about?” Sir asked.
“We’re finalizing plans for the construction of the containment facility. I’ll send the blueprints for your approval once we conclude the meeting.”
Brie lifted her head. “Construction is about to begin?”
“Da, it is,” he stated proudly.
A sense of peace suddenly washed over her. “I can’t tell you how happy that makes me.”
“Sweet dreams,radost moya…”
After Rytsar ended the call, Brie gazed into Sir’s eyes with a sense of growing relief. “It’s really happening, Sir.”
“It is, babygirl.” He kissed her on the forehead and began stroking her hair again. “You can rest easy now.”
Perfect Day
Brie woke up the next morning overflowing with excitement. Unable to contain it, she quietly slid out of bed and slipped her clothes on.
Heading outside, she walked barefoot in the sand to the water’s edge and watched the waves gently roll in around her feet.
She attributed her sense of well-being to the knowledge that the construction of the facility was about to begin. Having Lilly safely locked up and receiving medical care for her mental issues would ease Brie’s fears and allow her to fully embrace the birth that was coming. Ever since she was confronted with the situation at the convent and was forced to deal with Lilly’s deteriorating mental health, Brie had been subconsciously on alert every minute of every day.
Now, the pressure of those fears had an end date. Once Lilly was transferred, Brie could relax. Knowing that time was coming soon brought her a feeling of immense relief.
When she felt the baby kick, Brie looked down at her stomach and smiled. “I can’t wait to meet you, little one. You have a big sister who will look after you, as well as the most amazing daddy.” Tears came to her eyes when she imagined the moment when Sir held their baby in his arms for the first time…
It would be breathtakingly beautiful.
The instant Kylie’s death came to mind, Brie pushed it away. “I control my thoughts!” Brie shouted over the waves.
She was determined not to let anything ruin the incredible feeling of peace she was experiencing today. Turning toward the house, she saw Sir standing at their back door, smiling at her.
Her joy increased tenfold as she walked into his open arms.
“You seem especially content this morning. Last night’s scene seems to have had a positive effect on you.”
“That’s part of it, I’m sure.” She wrapped her arms around him. “But it’s so much more than that, Sir. I feel like I’m flying on cloud nine right now.”
He caressed her cheek. “I like seeing you this way, babygirl.”
She squeezed him tight, letting out a contented sigh. However, she was so full of energy, she couldn’t remain still for long.
“I feel like making some of Nonna’s hot chocolate.”
“Why not?” Sir chuckled as he escorted her inside.
Brie grinned, thinking of Sir’s grandparents as she got out the Italian chocolate and started chopping it into small pieces. “Did you get the blueprints from Rytsar last night?” she called out to Sir.
He walked out of his office with his laptop. “They’re right here.”
Setting the computer down on the counter, he told her, “Let’s wait to look them over together after we enjoy the hot chocolate you’re making.”
Brie smiled as she stirred the warm milk and watched the chocolate pieces slowly melt into chocolaty goodness. When she glanced up, she caught Sir staring at her. The expression on his face took her breath away—it was full of such tenderness and love that it made her blush with happiness.
He smirked. “I see I can still make you blush, Miss Bennett.”
