Her words are profound.

Tears fill Samantha’s eyes. “After assaulting Durov, I wanted to die. But, with the professional guidance of my psychologist, I was able to dissect what happened that evening and the reasons behind it. Rather than wallow in my guilt, I made positive changes to guarantee it never happened again.

“I stopped drinking, joined AA, and sought out the mentorship of the highly respected Domme Mistress Blaze. I served under her as a submissive until I fully understood both sides of the power exchange.”

She looks at both Anderson and me. “Because of what happened, and my actions afterward, I can say with confidence that I am a good Domme now. I’m not saying that out of pride but with humility. My heart is in a place to serve my submissives well even as I demand the best from them. Not only that, I’m committed to the learning process and to growing as a Dominant for the rest of my life.”

“That’s good to hear, Samantha,” Anderson says. “I admit there was a time I hated you after what you did to Durov.”

She nods. “You were right to.”

Samantha turns to me and grabs my hand. “You are not me. You have always been a Dominant, Thane. You care about your submissives and want what’s best for them. That has never been a question.”

After a restless night, I head to work but I feel hollow inside. Although I appreciate Samantha’s insight, I can’t stop replaying the scene with honey over and over again in my mind.

The experience has rocked me to my core.

When my cell phone rings shortly after arriving at work, I glance at it and groan. It’s Master Nosh. Although I would prefer to avoid speaking to him at all costs, I dutifully answer the call.

“Why did you leave last night when I specifically told you to wait in my office?”

I’m completely honest with him even though it hurts me to say it. “There is no point in me continuing.”

Master Nosh doesn’t even argue the point. “I expect to see you in my office at noon.”

I huff. “That’s impossible. I’m at work.”

“I am certain you can figure it out. Do not disappoint me again.”

His words cut like a knife. I deeply respect the man not only as a Dominant but also as a person. Knowing I’ve failed him too adds to the disgust I feel with myself.

After hanging up, I head to my boss’s office and ask for an extended lunch. I cringe a little, knowing I recently ask for the day off when Durov showed up at the office.

He looks at me thoughtfully. “Is everything okay?

“I’m fine. This is simply a matter that needs to be addressed today.”

He nods. “Well, you’ve always stayed late when I’ve asked. I’ll grant it.”

“Thank you, sir.”

I leave work early, anxious to get this meeting with Nosh over with. The one thing I hate more than failing is having someone rake me over the coals for it.

However, I know I completely deserve it in this situation.

As always, Rachael Dunningham greets me with a pleasant smile. “Lovely to see you, Mr. Davis. Master Nosh is waiting for you in his office.”

I linger at her desk for a moment, feeling the need to tell her, “You are an asset to this institution, Miss Dunningham.”

She blushes. “Why, thank you. That is so kind of you to say.”

“Simply the truth.”

I walk away, fully expecting not to return to the Center after this meeting with Master Nosh. Deciding to face my fears with a brave face, I knock on his office door.

The Head Trainer answers it himself and, without speaking, gestures for me to come inside. I walk into the office and sit down, waiting in silence as he takes his place behind his desk.

“Explain to me why you left last night.”
