I shrugged my shoulder. I could count the people I knew in this country on my one hand and that included the people I worked with. So no, I didn’t have qualms about working on the weekends although I wasn't going to say that to him.

“Is that a no?” he asked and I wondered if I agitated him. Colin didn’t mind my short verbal or non-verbal answers but Elise often told me they could agitate people.

“No,” I confirmed.

He came around the desk and stood in front of me. I glanced up at him, wondering why he felt the need to come up so close to me.

He was taller than Hunter. My mind carefully pointed out every difference. And he was built much stronger than Hunter.

Although I remained sitting, I felt my body was too close, way too close, to his.

“Great,” he replied, crossing his arms and I noted how strong and hard his biceps looked.

“I want to make sure this project is successful,” his eyes bore into me. “Colin is convinced your choice is better. I still have some doubts about it.”

I never wavered from his face and his words registered in my mind. “Then why did you implement it already and are running with it?”

“Because my uncle believes in you.” There was something about him… the way he stared at me. “And I’m curious about you.”

“Not a logical reason to select a project,” I told him quietly. I wasn’t sure what he meant about being curious about me.

“Maybe,” he replied. “Now, I’d like a status report at the beginning of each day and end of each day.” I frowned and before I could ask why, he added as if reading my thoughts. “We have a night shift going so your end of the day reports and next morning reports will have updates.”

That made sense so I nodded.

“Any questions?” he asked. I shook my head, it seemed straight forward.

“Do you understand why we need frequent updates?” he asked slowly as if he thought I was an idiot. His question hit me the wrong way.

I glared at him. “If results are not produced, you’ll cut the project before too much money is sunk into it.”

He nodded satisfied. “Good.”

“Listen,” I spat out with some of my old flare coming back, for the first time in a long time. “I might have not done this since college but I’m not an idiot.”

His gaze studied me as if he was trying to decide whether he agreed or not with my statement.

“I don’t think you are an idiot,” he finally replied. And that was it.

“You’ll have a status report at the end of the day,” I told him, my glare on him in defiance.

I got up abruptly ready to go. Except when I stood up, our bodies were too close together. If I leaned half an inch, I’d feel his hard, warm body pressed against mine. And oh my God, heat practically radiated from him! I felt desire rush through me, and I froze, confusion and arousal at war in me.

Our eyes met; we were so close I could see different shades of grey in his. Blood rushed through my body; my heart beating so hard, I could hear it ringing in my ears.

Staggering backwards, I felt his eyes watching my every move. I couldn’t stand the intensity of it and I sped out of the room.

My attraction wasn’t real! The damned painful resemblance of Lachlan McLaren to Hunter caused confusion to my body and my mind. Nothing else!
