Oh, ho, ho. So Colt likes a little dirty talk, does he?

“Sorry, not sorry, cock sucker.”

He frowns.

“Too far?”

The question makes his lips twitch and he looks away. “We should go.”

It’s cute how serious he’s trying to sound, but I don’t miss the laughter lightening every word he says.

“Yeah, let’s do that.”

He shoots me an annoyed look and hops out of the car.

“You know for a vampire, you’re pretty moody.” I shout after him, shaking my head and climbing out of the car.

I grab my knives from the floor, strapping them on at my thighs, my left arm, and the small of my back. The sheaths on my thigh hold three each, so I have eight knives total.

Shutting the door, I take in a surprised breath when I see Mateo leaning against the front of the car. He holds out a gun.

“You should take this.”

“I’m not sure how effective that’ll be.”

Lifting an eyebrow, he reaches into his pocket with his free hand and pulls out a bullet. Only, it’s not normal looking. This one’s casing is a jagged spiral and the middle part is see-through. A clear liquid swishes around when I hold it up so I can get a better look at it.

“What is this?”

“Silver nitrate. When the bullet hits a target, it cracks and the nitrate seeps into the body. It’ll slow your opponent down long enough for you to kill them.”

“Hm. Vicious.”

He smiles but it’s more of a baring of teeth and my eyes are drawn to the sharp points of his fangs. You know… if he bites me, I’d have a little extra edge.

Not long enough for it to matter.

Does it matter though? Look at how pretty they are.

I shake my head.

Damn traitorous body.

Suddenly my back is pressed against the car and Mateo’s pressing in close, dropping his forehead against mine.

“It’s so hard to be good when you look at me like that, baby girl.” He presses his lips to mine before dropping his mouth to my neck.

Turning my head to give him better access, my eyes clash with Grayson’s. He’s watching us with a mix of longing and worry painted across his features. I wink at him to let him know I have it handled, then gasp when Mateo’s fangs pierce my skin.

Oh shit, this feels good.

I dig my hands into the front of his shirt and let my eyelids flutter closed. He’s done a few seconds later, skating his hot tongue over my skin. He blows on my wet skin, making me shiver and grip his shirt tighter. His heady gaze burns into me and he brushes his lips with mine. It’s a little unnerving staring straight into the eyes of the beast, but damn, he’s so magnetic I can’t look away.

“Oh for fuck’s sake, get a room.” Evelyn shoves Mateo’s shoulder.

His lips break away from mine and I take in a haggard breath, glancing down to hide how out of sorts I am from a simple kiss.

“Evelyn you’re three seconds away from being on my shit list.”
