Page 14 of Roots of the Wicked

This was the first time I could recall Chase attending this convention. Had he come for me? Looking over the woman next to him, she was what I expected. A leggy blonde. One of those prim types whose job was to nab a rich husband and attend social functions.

Why couldn’t I stop thinking about punishing Chase in the most delicious ways? It wasn’t like we were suited to date each other. The media had leaked that you needed to sign a freaking NDA to even be seen in public with the man, and I’ll be damned if I signed a contract to go out with anybody. Besides, I did my best to balance staying clear of public attention while networking to strengthen my business.

Chase stepped into my path, stalling my attempt to bring my date her drink. How had he managed to break away from the woman clinging to his side like her life depended on it?

“Jax.”

“Chase.”

“You look lovely,” he complimented before allowing his eyes to peruse my body. His gaze damned near burned through the material of my dress, making my nipples tighten. His glasses did nothing to tone down the gleaming hunger in his eyes.

Our silent impasse dredged up images of me fucking him cowgirl style, lassoed to a chair until he passed out. My active imagination got the best of me, when I had a worthy muse to fill it with.

“You clean up well yourself.” I finally replied, keeping my behavior cool and casual, although, seeing him had kicked up the pounding in my pussy. The man dripped sex appeal and the suit he wore tonight highlighted his toned body.

“So, do you date women, exclusively?”

He didn’t waste time getting straight to the point. His sharp gaze dared me to reply yes, and if I did, I’m sure he intended to try and change my mind. Chase’s date stood stoic, glaring in our direction with her arms folded across her chest.

“Why do you want to know?” If I was reading his body language correctly, he was ready to strip my ass down in the middle of this crowd and fuck the shit out of me.

His lips tilted into a mischievous grin before he stepped closer, shrinking the space between us and forcing my lungs to work harder.

“You’re well aware that I’m accustomed to being in charge Jax. Apparently, you’re in desperate need to find out what you’ve been missing. I don’t believe a woman is equipped to show you all that you’re missing out on.”

“And I suppose you’re the one to show me this, right?”

“You have no idea the things I’d like to do to you.” He lowered his voice and leaned closer. “The things you would beg me to do to you.”

Unable to stop myself, I leaned in wanting to absorb his warmth and breathe him in. He was an invigorating blend, a mélange of black currant, sweet wisteria, and stimulating masculinity.

“I sensed your wild side the moment you touched me with that tight grip you had on my hand. But it was also the moment I knew we would never go beyond mutual attraction. It’s been months since I’ve been with a man Chase, and I haven’t decided yet if I want to go back.”

“Why not? Afraid you might like it too much?”

My face sat inches away from his when I whispered, “Just because I haven’t been dick-fucked, doesn’t mean I haven’t fucked in other ways.” I turned from him then and found my date in the crowd. “You see that sexy ass beautiful woman over there watching us.”

The reality of us being out and in public finally hit him. It hit me as well, reminding that I needed to keep an eye out for the groups that liked to crowd him for pictures.

He took a small, almost deflating step back and glanced in my date’s direction.

“I’m going to take her home tonight, and fuck her so good, that afterwards she’ll ask me for permission every time she wants to touch herself. Trust me, Chase, once you’re mine, you will always be. But, it doesn’t matter, because we would never work out.”

“You’re wrong,” he stated. The powerful aura of is confidence sucked the air out of the room.

His date strolled up before he could continue, but his eyes remained on me. He didn’t bother introducing the woman as she stood staring between us.

“Aren’t you going to introduce me to your beautiful date?” I attempted to offer the woman the attention he didn’t.

“Jax, this is…this is…”

A fucking shame was what it was. He didn’t even know the woman’s name. It took everything in me not to laugh out loud, but I didn’t want to embarrass the woman further. Chase Taylorson was something else: a real piece of work.

The lady reached for my hand.

“I’m Amanda Newcastle. Nice to meet you, Jax. You look gorgeous, and I love your dress.” I didn’t miss Amanda’s lingering attention or the hint of sass in her tone when she spoke. Was she flirting? I knew her little churchgoing ass had seen who I strolled in the place with, but it didn’t mean I jumped on every cat I found attractive.

“Thank you, Amanda. You look quite tempting yourself,” I offered her a flat compliment, flirting to aggravate Chase.
