“Careful,” says Silver, “don’t want to be caught underage drinking at the house of the enemy.” He has me caged in against the wall.
“Who said you’re the enemy? Maybe the Aces are my enemy.”
He smirks. “You might not have grown up here, beautiful. But you are an Ace by blood and therefore I am the enemy, but that doesn’t mean that enemies can’t fraternise.” He leans in and places his lips against mine. He holds them there for a beat, as if waiting to see if I’ll push him away, and when I don’t, he takes a step closer and kisses me. I respond, kissing him back. I’m not going to lie, it’s a good kiss and Silver is hot. I pull away and rest my hand on his chest, noticing the tattoo of a horse. “What’s with the horse?”
He looks down at where my hand rests over his tattoo and he places his hand over mine. “It’s where my family first made their money. Betting and horse racing. You could say it’s in my blood. We have stables here.”
I bob my head up and down as I take in this new information. “I used to ride. When my mum and dad were alive. It’s been a long time since I rode.”
“Well, princess, you’re welcome down here anytime for a ride.” He smirks at me, and I roll my eyes at his attempt at sexual innuendo. “Come on, I’ll run you home.”
“I’m good,” I protest as we create some space between us. “I just need to find Verity.”
“Then let’s find your friend.” He takes me by the hand and leads me out into the hallway, just as his brother is closing the door. He looks at his brother and then down at our joined hands and smirks before he disappears into a room over on the right. We find Verity in the third bedroom we try, her and the girls jump apart from where they were fooling around on the bed when Silver opens the door and turns the light on.
“Oh, hey,” Verity says, running a hand through her unruly hair. “We were just passing some time until the police fucked off.”
“You don’t say,” Damon says with a devilish grin. “Parties over and Cinderella here needs a ride home. Unless you’re otherwise engaged?”
Verity rolls her eyes at him as she shuffles to the end of the bed and puts her shoes back on. “I’m good, thanks,” she tells him. Kayla huffs, annoyed we have interrupted them, and she grabs her own shoes. She leans in and drops a kiss on Verity’s lips. “Call me.” As she passes Damon, she pulls her tongue out playfully at him and he chuckles.
We follow Damon to the front door, and he holds it open for us. Verity passes him with a wave.
“Thanks for the invite tonight,” I tell him as I pause on the doorstep.
“Anytime, beautiful. Oh, and if you want to be on the fighting line-up for this Friday, I can set you up?”
“You could?” I ask, my eyes lighting up with excitement.
He nods. “Leave it with me.” He leans in and places a kiss on my forehead. “Be good.”
I take a step back and hesitate, and he cocks a brow in question. “By the way, that kiss, don’t think it means anything.”
His mouth lifts at the corner as he tilts his head and studies me. “Never crossed my mind that it did, princess. Good night.”
Taking a step backwards out into the night, I shake my head, smiling, before turning and heading down the drive to Verity’s car.
I climb inside and Verity waits silently while I put on my seatbelt. “Do you want to tell me what went down between you two?”
I laugh and shake my head. “Nothing for you to worry about, Verity. So, Kayla’s cute?”
Verity bites her lip and nods her head. “Isn’t she gorgeous? Those legs of hers go on forever.” She starts the car, and we head for the other side of the bay. “Oh, and you can call me Vee. That’s what those in my close circle call me.”
I chuckle and nod my head, and I can’t help the pleasure I feel in knowing that she now classes me as part of that inner circle. “Let’s head home. Are you still staying at mine?”
“I sure am,” Verity replies.
