“Have you had the baby yet?”

“No. I told you I’m due in December.”

“Okay.” He sighs heavily. “I just keep thinking about what you said, about when the kid grows up.”

“And?”

“If they want to get in touch, I’d be open to that.”

My heart clenches. “Really?”

“Yeah, I mean I don’t want to interfere. You have a new life there.”

Thank God.

“Okay, I guess we’ll see what happens then.”

“Yeah.” He pauses. “Take care, okay?”

“Um, you too.”

As the call disconnects, I can’t help but wonder if we’ll ever speak again.

Regardless, he’s prepared to give our baby the opportunity to know their truth.
