She’s anxious and torn over my threat. I know she dislikes seeing others get hurt, even if it is one of our enemies. It’s just part of her beautiful, light nature.

“Never,” the angel growls, now choosing to close his eyes.

I hiss again, extending my fangs. The angel braces for pain and agony, and I would gladly do it on Raven’s behalf for the fact that this is about her. No one will ever fuck with my girl if I have something to do about it. I will destroy everyone who even thinks about it.

Raven rests her hand on my shoulder.

Okay, maybe not. But only because Raven won’t let me.

“Dante, wait.” Raven slides up next to me within the circle and nestles into my side. “I’ve changed my mind. I don’t think this is the right way to go about things.”

I see what she’s doing. She wants to play the good soul and have me be the badass she loves.

“How the fuck do you want to go about it then? He obviously isn’t going to give us answers easily.” I fake-glare at her and wait for her to gather her thoughts.

“I think he might give us the answers if maybe I show him that it will be worth it for him.” Raven licks her lips, and her eyes flash with fire. She’s tapping into my power through the bond without even realizing it. I don’t have to have a contract with her to be close to her soul. She automatically allows me in.

“Are you insinuating what I think you are, pretty soul? You would really put that pretty pouty mouth of yours around this fucker’s cock?” I ask in amusement.

She shrugs. “Maybe. There are other ways to get angels to comply. Remember Andre? It all started with a simple caressing of my tongue.”

Damn. I harden at just the thought of her getting on her knees.

“You abomination! Stay away from me!” the angel shouts, gathering heavenly light in his palms again.

Raven grabs the front of her shirt and flashes the guy her tits. The angel freezes, his eyes widening, and I realize that her gesture got him right in the cock.

“You concubine! Cover your body and show respect for yourself.” The angel shields his eyes, sounding like a fucking mortal from the past. “I will not stand here and let you seduce me. You will not entangle your tainted body and soul with mine. I would rather burn than risk letting you get to me. I don’t care if you have light inside you. Do you understand?”

I clench my fingers into fists. “Are you denying my girl?”

“It’s okay, Dante. I don’t actually want to do anything with him anyway.” Raven draws her finger in a circle as if she’s highlighting the angel’s boner through his pants. “He is unworthy of me.”

“As you are unworthy to carry such a magnificent light,” the angel snaps. “It is such a shame that we can’t send you to Hell at this moment. But we can send your masters.”

His words prod at something inside me. What does he mean about not being able to send Raven to Hell in this moment? She’s not absolutely pure. We do taint her with our darkness. She allies with Hell.

Fury rushes through me, and I charge the angel knocking him from the fire circle and onto his back. “Tell me what you mean,” I demand. “Tell me now or you will go to Hell.”

The angel doesn’t respond.

I summon a dagger and stab him in the chest. “Tell me!” My hellish nature consumes me. All I see are flames.

Chapter 5

ZADE

Intervention

MY ENTIRE BEING darkens at the sight of Raven and Dante trying to break the guardian. It becomes more of a struggle every day not to stand up and ask the guardians to step back and let me do my job acting as Raven’s moral compass. I feel that it is my purpose to try and guide her on the path of good grace.

I know she is lost. I know that she feels as if she never had a choice in any of this, and maybe she hasn’t. But now? With a little push in the right direction, she still might be able to save her soul. It is what happened with Elias. He managed to sway his soul from Hell and back to an even ground. If only it didn’t make things worse for Raven. I know he did what he did to save her from Lucian. And now Heaven’s army is out to ensure the devils can’t repeat everything over again.

Heaven believes that if Raven dies, it could trigger her soul to cycle again and find Elias. If the devils know this, they might push her into starting over. At least, that’s what the others think. I, on the other hand, know that they wouldn’t do such a thing. They love her too much as she is. Starting over could mean a number of things. It could mean that they never see her again. No one knows the Divine’s true purpose.

Not the guardians. Not the devils. Not me.

If only I could turn back time and convince Andre that Raven needed him more as an angel instead of the devil he has become. I think about him more and more these days, especially when he seeks me out. I know what his intentions are, and he’s trying to use our companionship against me. I just can’t give in to what he wants. I truly believe that Raven will do far more good if she doesn’t fall to Hell. Unfortunately, Heaven’s army doesn’t agree.
