"My Elite Guards, yes. I had hoped that if Leilani heard I lost interest in you, she would leave you alone."

A savage growl ripped through Zamorra's mind and she tensed. Her werewolf did not like that statement. She felt herself heat up and raw power started to course through her entire body.

He thinks we're weak, her werewolf growled, her anger rising rapidly.

Zamorra frowned. What are you talking about?

He doesn't think we're strong enough to protect ourselves against her. Why else would he do this? He thinks we're weak.

Zamorra thought deeply about her werewolf's words. Was she right? Did he ignore her because he didn't think she was strong enough to take Leilani on? But wait. That would mean-

"Hold up. You mean to tell me you've been acting like a spoilt brat throwing a fit because you wanted your ex to think you didn't like me?"

"I wouldn't put it in those words."

"Who cares how I fucking phrased it, is the meaning behind it true or not?"

Luther narrowed his eyes, his temper spiking at how she spoke to him. So, the vampire king didn't like it when someone gave him attitude. Big whoop.

"Well?" Zamorra glared.

He growled low in his chest. "Yes."

She stared at him silently for a moment. "You seriously thought-" She spoke slowly as she placed both hands on the arms of the chair and pushed herself to her feet. "-that ignoring me for days without so much as an explanation was the right decision?" Her head shook in disbelief and she clenched her teeth. "Let's forget for a moment that you treated everyone around you like fucking shit and focus on the fact that it would have taken you two seconds to tell me your plan so I didn't think you fucking hated me," she growled.

Being a werewolf shifter came with an extremely short temper, which meant sometimes things affected her more harshly than usual. She had honestly thought (before all this crap started) that Luther was slowly beginning to trust her. Shit, he trusted her enough to stick his tongue down her throat. But clearly, not enough to include her in his plans, which coincidentally involved her anyway.

Luther sighed and got to his feet. "You need to-"

"If you tell me to calm down, I'm going to bitch slap you right in that stupid, handsome face of yours."

His brows raised in surprise and a stunned expression quickly took over his face. He eyed her suspiciously. "You wouldn't slap me."

Oh. He should not have said that. She would do it just based on that statement alone. Add in the fact she was extremely pissed with him right now and Zamorra couldn't think of a single reason not to. She raised her hand and slapped him so hard across the face his head cracked to the side, leaving a massive red handprint on his cheek.

Luther slowly turned his head back to face her and she took an involuntary step back at the anger shooting from his eyes. Okay, maybe that wasn't such a smart idea. Sometimes she forgot how truly terrifying he could be. Of all that power and evilness coursing through his veins.

He never unleashed that side of himself on her before, but now... she was getting a glimpse of the devil lurking beneath his skin, and he was scarier than anything she had ever encountered before.

"You get one," he warned, eyes blazing bright red.

"Shoulda given you everything I had then," she grumbled under her breath.

The double doors burst open with a loud bang. Luther immediately blurred in front of her and crouched, his fangs snapping from his gums and a low growl rumbling from his chest.

A tingly feeling shot through Zamorra at the protective gesture. This wasn't the first time he threw himself in front of her or stopped someone from hurting her. She wondered if he even realised he was doing it half the time.

She popped her head around his large body to see what was going on, but the entryway was empty. There wasn't a soul in sight apart from her and Luther.

Luther frowned and straightened to his full height. His eyes slowly started to scan the room, studying every detail meticulously. He scowled and gave an evil glare. "Show yourself, pixie," he grunted.

There was a brief moment of silence and then Navi appeared right in front of Luther's face, surrounded by a cloud of pixie dust.

Luther stood rooted in place, not a single flinch going through his monstrous body. He arched an eyebrow and Navi pouted, disappointed she wasn't able to scare the vampire king.

Navi poked her tongue out and zoomed away, flying for Zamorra. She halted directly in front of her and rapidly began to talk, gesturing wildly with her hands.

"Uh- wha- huh- just- stop!" Zamorra tried to cut in between Navi's ranting but it was like the pixie couldn't hear a word she was saying. She just continued to speak in her rare, ancient language. "God, I really need to learn Sylvan," Zamorra muttered under her breath.
