"Well, as much as I wouldloveto stick around a watch you torture this waste of space, I do have to be heading off. Important business to attend to and all that," Leilani interjected, stepping towards the bound vampire's lying on the floor.
She slipped Luther's gold ring on her finger and rolled her shoulders back, breathing in deeply. She raised her hand and a wave of red power washed over the room. The vampires immediately froze, their bodies and faces going lax and a cloudy daze filling their eyes.
Compulsion,Zamorra stated surprisingly. It's the ring. It's power gives the wearer the ability to compel supernatural’s.
I think there's more to it than that.
"Once I leave, you will forget my presence here tonight. Once the shifters leave you will forget their presence. As far as you know, the werewolf slut abandoned her pledge to House Darkova, murdered your comrades and fled into the night," Leilani's voice rang clear, authority and power dripping from every word she spoke.
When she lowered her hand and turned, the vampire's shook their heads and frowned. Darius, Axel and Roman exchanged worried glances. Their bodies thrashed as they tried with renewed energy to break their cuffs. They shouldn't have bothered. They were as powerless as humans when wrapped in silver.
Leilani walked past Barnabas, stopping a few feet from the front door. "My debt has now been paid in full." She turned on her heel to leave, but the Alpha shifter spoke, freezing her on the spot.
"Miss DuMont," he boomed, a dark warning in his voice. He took a handkerchief from his pocket and placed it over his palm, raising it in the air.
Grinding her teeth together Leilani pivoted and made her way back. She slowly pulled the gold ring from her finger and dropped it into his palm.
He wrapped the handkerchief around the ring carefully, like he was afraid to touch it with his bare skin and gave her a charming smile. "Now, your debt is paid."
Her fists clenched at her side and her eyes flashed red, anger radiating from her body but she didn't try to take the ring back. She bowed her head ever so slightly and then left the room in a huff.
Zamorra's mind was reeling. What 'debt'? Man, she was dying to know. How did Leilani get herself indebted to a thug like Barnabas? What did he give her?
"Gideon. Thane," Barnabas barked loudly, making her jolt.
Two men entered the room, the warrior shifters she'd seen escorting Barnabas into the Regent Meeting. One was tall, clean shaven, and like her uncle had pointed out, he radiated Hugh Jackman vibes. The other had enough muscle to give Roman a run for his money, but that blank look in his eyes? It was like the light was on but no one was home. He moved with stiff, robotic movements while his partner was fluid, graceful.
"My Liege," they parroted, bowing low at the waist.
"Take our new pack mate here and escort her to the car," Barnabas ordered.
"I'm not going anywhere with you," she snapped.
Gideon and Thane nodded briskly and moved to take Zamorra from Maddox.
Don't let them take you!Her werewolf snarled.
Zamorra had no intention of letting them do so. She would rather die. The fate that awaited her with these men was not a good one. Her father had drilled into her head that it was better to fight to the death than be kidnapped.
The moment Maddox removed the jagged blade from her throat, she attacked. An elbow to the privates made Maddox choke and hunch over in pain, his eyes bulging from his head in surprise. He was at the perfect height for her to reach back and curl her fingers around his nape. Gripping tightly, she flung him over her shoulder, slamming him hard onto the ground. She picked up the blade he dropped, ignoring the way it burned into her hand, and thrust it deep into his skull, all the way to the hilt. It wouldn't kill him, but it was enough to take him out of contention. At least, until someone pulled that knife out of his brain.
Gideon and Thane advanced quickly and she jumped up onto her feet, landing in a crouch. She lashed out with a swift kick to Gideon's shin and he stumbled. She followed through with a punch to the stomach and a brutal uppercut under his chin, sending him flying backwards.
Barnabas stepped to the side, narrowly missing the shifter hurtling in the air and Gideon smashed through the mahogany coffee table in the centre of the room.
Amused with a small smirk on his face, Barnabas sat on the arm of the couch, crossing his arms over his chest and watching on with a twinkle in his eyes.
She sensed someone behind her a second too late, and strong, brawny arms wrapped around her, squeezing her in a tight bear hug.
Thane. How the fuck did he get behind her so quick? For such a big fucker he sure moved quietly. She hadn't even noticed him.
She flailed, kicking her legs out as he lifted her effortlessly off her feet and slowly started walking her back towards the door.
Fuck him up!Zamorra screamed, relinquishing control.
Ancient magic flooded her body and her werewolf burst out, the power of her shift so strong it forced Thane to release her and he went spiralling backwards.
Enraged and full of blinding fury she spun, releasing a powerful roar that made the mansion shake.
