They both ignored her.
"Get the Concealing Enchantment. Now," Orion barked and Adele nodded.
He clasped Zamorra's hand tightly and dragged her to the far corner of the room.
"Dad, you're scaring me," Zamorra whispered.
She had no clue what was going on. One minute she was sleeping, having an awesome dream about finally being able to fuck Neron Salix, her high school crush, and the next she was being flung around like a rag doll.
Orion knelt down and after a few seconds of fumbling he ripped open a small trap door revealing a hidden crawl space in the floor. "Get in."
"But Dad-"
"Now!" He roared, raising his voice so loud it made her flinch.
She was used to her father’s abrasive tone and his harsh ways. It was what she'd grown up with all her life. But this? This was something entirely different. The fear in his dark, brown eyes was something she'd never seen. Not from him.
When she still hadn't moved, he growled and shoved her down into the small space by force.
"Dad!" She cried. "I don't want to be in here! Please!"
Adele rushed over carrying a small red vial in her hands. The sound of the front door being smashed to smithereens made them all freeze on the spot and Adele looked over her shoulder, eyeing the barricaded door with terror in her eyes.
"Orion. They're in the house," she whispered, her voice quivering with fear.
"It's Barnabas, isn't it? He's-he's finally found us?" Zamorra asked, shakily.
Adele turned and smiled sadly, tears prickling in her eyes. "Yes. I wish... God, I wish we had more time, ZoZo. I want to tell you so many things-"
Deep, savage growls surrounded them from all sides and a mighty roar ripped through the house, making the ground tremble beneath their feet and the walls shake so violently all the picture frames hanging up fell to the floor, spilling shattered glass everywhere around them.
The barricaded door protecting them shook with powerful force, loud repetitive bangs slowly pushing the furniture in front forward inch by inch.
"We're out of time. We need to say goodbye, Adele." Orion stared down in sadness at his daughter, wishing more than anything in the world that he had enough time to say everything he wanted to say. To tell Zamorra everything she needed to know.
"I love you, Zamorra. Please know that everything I've done was for you, to better your chances of survival. To give you the strength and power so you could live a life worth living, without fear. I'm sorry we won't be there to watch you grow up, to watch you meet your mate, fall in love and have a family all of your own. To watch you grow into the strong, beautiful woman we know you'll become. But just know that I'm so, so proud of you and you'll always be my daughter. No matter what."
"Dad," Zamorra croaked. "Why are you saying all of this? You're coming with me, aren't you?"
Adele crumbled to her knees and gripped her hands tightly, her throat thickened with sobs. "I've made so many mistakes over my life, countless mistakes that I wish I could take back. More than anything I wish I had been honest with you. I wish I had told you the truth about-"
The door splintered and a fist blasted straight through, raining broken pieces of wood all over the floor.
"Adele," Orion prompted sternly and she sucked in a breath, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"I love you," Adele cried as she slammed the trap door shut. She immediately threw the small vial filled with the Concealing Enchantment and it shattered, spilling powerful dark magic. The magic blazed bright red, momentarily blinding their vision and it sunk into the ground, embedding itself deep into the hardwood floor.
The Enchantment activated instantly, concealing the trap door from sight.
"Mum! Dad! No!" Zamorra screamed at the top of her lungs, pounding her fists as hard as she could.
Help me!She cried, begging her werewolf for her power, her strength.
Her werewolf unleashed everything she had within Zamorra, making her entire body tremble with adrenaline. Sharp claws exploded from her hands and she ruthlessly attacked the trap door keeping her confined, punching, kicking, scratching, doing everything imaginable to get out and get back to her parents, but it was no use. Nothing worked. There wasn't even the slightest bit of damage to the infernal thing. It was like it was impenetrable.
She could still hear her mother’s sobs through the tiny gaps in the hardwood floor, still see their shadows standing over her. It tore her heart in two.
Adele stared down at where the trap door used to be, placing her palm flat against the wood. She knew her daughter would be fighting tooth and nail to break free, to return to them, but there was no sound. Not even a slight vibration from the beating she was sure her daughter was giving.
