She walked to the door and opened it, gesturing out the door.
I crossed my arms over my chest. “We’re not going anywhere right now.”
Seconds afterward, Liam emerged from her bedroom. The familiar scent suddenly made sense. Anger filled my system, overwhelming all other senses. I had never wanted to rip my boss’s head off more than I did watching him stroll into the room, shirtless with tattered hair.
“What the hell is going on here?” I asked switching my glare between the two of them.
“Oh no,” Savannah said, stepping between me and Liam. “You don’t get to show up at my house in the middle of the night and demand answers from me. You had better start explaining yourself right now or so help me, I’ll make sure you never have an erection for the rest of your life.”
“Don’t you think you owe us an explanation?” I asked, spitting out the words. “And please, do continue to try and fool me into thinking you could do such things. I know you better than that.”
She quirked an eyebrow. The air around me turned static. I almost gulped, but I was too angry to give her an ounce of satisfaction at intimidating me. I simply stood my ground, staring her down. “You’re pushing your luck.”
“As the great detective said before,” Noah butted in, “was it too much to ask for a simple text message letting us know you were still alive and in one piece?”
Savannah spun around on her heels to face Liam who stood against the entrance of her short hallway. “What exactly did you tell him?”
“That I found you and brought you home. Would update more in the morning,” he said, running his fingers through his short crop of hair piled on the top of his head. “I didn’t think I needed to go into detail considering the circumstances.”
She nodded and then spun around to face me again. “See? Updated well enough. Now leave.”
“Tell that to him,” I said, pointing a thumb behind me at Noah who was likely watching the show with an amused expression on his face. I couldn’t pull my gaze from Savannah to be sure.
“Don’t let him fool you,” Noah said. “He was just as anxious to see you too.”
I rolled my eyes. If he didn’t keep his mouth shut…
Savannah switched her gaze between the two of us. The static in the air had yet to fade, and I was certain she was about to blast us with some extremely uncomfortable magic. Suddenly making a late-night trip didn’t seem like such a hot idea. Not only did I see the injuries—rather, what was left of them—but I had the added salt of Liam being in her bed. He knew damn well how I felt about her, and this was a low blow even for him.
“You couldn’t have waited a few more hours before showing up?” her voice boomed through her living room.
“Why?” Noah asked. “Did we interrupt your romping with the boss?”
She glared at him. “I’m so glad you think this is all a joke to you.”
“Oh, I’m completely serious,” he said. “What the hell were you thinking?”
“What was I thinking?” she shouted, voice turning shrill.
I chuckled. Noah didn’t know how not to piss someone off, apparently.
She glared at me. “Don’t you dare encourage him.”
I shrugged. “He doesn’t need my encouragement. Clearly.”
Liam took a couple of steps closer. “There is an explanation for this. One we have no issues sharing with you.”
Savannah glared at him. “We don’t?”
“Once everyone has had a decent night’s sleep,” Liam finished.
“That means leave,” Savannah said. “And honestly, I think all of you should leave. I want to be alone.”
“I’m not going anywhere until I get some answers,” Noah said, squaring his shoulders and planting his feet where he stood.
I rolled my eyes.
Savannah shook her head and pinched the bridge of her nose. She muttered something to the effect of “I can’t even right now” as she left the room, heading into the kitchen. A few cabinet doors slammed and there was quite a bit of banging going on.
