She sat down across from me and grabbed my hands. “You know that I love you, and you can tell me anything. Please don’t make this a trend, okay? We are closer than that and have a much better relationship than that. The way Derek was talking yesterday, I thought that you were showing up to work with black eyes. Me and your father were getting ready to load up the car because you know he was taking every gun he had.”
That made me laugh so hard because I knew she was serious.

That Evening
I stoodon the sidelines cheering as the smaller group of kids hopped toward the finish line of the sack race. They looked so cute, and I honestly couldn’t wait until my kids would be participating in the games.
“Oo!” I yelped when a pair of arms wrapped around me.
I turned to see Dymon in a pair of blue jeans and a Polo shirt that he wouldn’t be caught dead in.
I laughed. “Why on earth, are you dressed that way?”
“Your father took me…shopping. Said I needed to fit in.”
“Oh my God. I know you about died when you went in The Dress Grove.”
“There were so many rows of clothes. I thought they’d never end.”
That made me laugh so hard.
“Seriously, but I appreciated it.”
“Really. Where have y’all been all day? I’ve missed you.”
This was my first time seeing Dymon since he left the house earlier. He wasn’t even texting me. The only time he responded was when I texted him and asked if he was alive.
“I’ve missed you too, sweetheart. Your father had me out and about.”
“Where?”
“For one, we went to The Grove. You already knew where my mind went.”
“Oh my God.”
“If your father knew what his daughter was doing with his precious oranges…”
I covered my ears, making him laugh. “So, what did y’all talk about?”
“None of your business.”
I stomped my foot. “Tell me.”
“You stomping your little foot does nothing to me. They are hopping their asses off, ain’t they?”
Focusing back on the kids, they were laughing and screaming as they were hopping their little hearts and souls out for sure.
“I can’t wait until DJ can do this.”
“DJ?”
“Dymon Jr.”
“Never.”
“You think I am going to miss out on the opportunity to keep that sexy name going? Please.”
