“Definitely. But I haven’t been joining them out there for the past year, I think.” Mia shrugged.
“I wonder why…” Fiona grinned, giving us an exaggerated wink. Mia smiled, blushing slightly. “They’re trying for a baby.”
“Aw!” Viola and I melted. “That’s so cute!”
“Yeah. Antonio doesn’t want me out there while we’re trying for kids, but to be honest, he won’t want me out there when we have kids too, so…” We all chuckled, catching her drift. “I guess I’m pretty much out of the game if you could call it that, but it’s fine by me. I’ve shown the boys what I can do. My reputation will hold.”
“It definitely does,” I agreed. “That's why I asked. Does it make it any easier for you to see Antonio leave, knowing there might be bullets flying around him?”
“Not a chance,” she said immediately, shaking her head, and looking down at her fingers. “You can get used to putting yourself in danger, but you can never get used to watching someone you love do the same.”
“Fair point,” I replied.
“So, you’re like properly in love, eh?” Viola asked, smiling at me.
I rolled my eyes. “You’re one to speak.”
She gasped at my audacity, Fiona gasped at the apparent news, then Mia caught on with an excited smile.
“Viola, are you in love with someone?” she asked.
Viola went red in the face and widened her eyes at me. I shrugged. “If anyone is going to keep your secret, it’s these girls.”
They both nodded, Fiona adding, “Girl, you don’t know what kinda secrets us mafia women live with—and not even about the guys or what they do.”
It seemed there was a whole world on the other side of the mafia—the female side. In the past, for our mothers, it must have been a struggle getting through life married to sexist men who thought having mistresses was their right. They must have found ways to group together like this and discuss their own love affairs and ways of coping. In this day and age, it looked like we would have less sad relationship issues and more issues coping with missing and worrying about our loving husbands when they were out in the field.
Viola sighed dramatically. “Fine! But we talk in whispers, and it doesn’t leave this room!”
The girls excitedly sat down on the carpet around the small table, leaning in to hear her. I laughed at their enthusiasm and dropped my ass to the carpet as well.
“Okay, so his name is Matt,” Viola started.
I couldn’t help myself, I leaned in and whispered, “He’s her bodyguard.”
Fiona and Mia gasped, then giggled hysterically. “Omigosh!”
“Yes!” Fiona loved the tea.
“It started a few months ago… he was just so sexy and sweet, and I couldn’t help myself…”
“Was he all gruff and demanding?” Mia asked.
“Or was he like your sub? Satisfying your every whim?” Fiona nudged forward, swooning at her own words.
I laughed and waited for Viola's answer eagerly. She was blushing so hard, sighing, and thinking of the words.
“Um… I guess neither. It started with these little comments between us that turned into this playful banter. He knew I was a virgin, and he was very excited by that…”
“So, how was the first time?” Mia asked.
“It was in the car. He’d been teasing me for days already.” She dropped her red face into her hands. “Like, touching me inappropriately when he helped me into the car and stuff. It was super hot.” She laughed shyly, drawing circles on the table with her finger. “Then one day, I saw this guy from my homeschool class while I was out shopping. He started flirting and asking me out, so Matt got super jealous and quiet. In the car, I couldn’t handle the silent treatment anymore. I climbed into his lap and told him that he was the only one I wanted.”
We all sighed in contented romantic happiness.
“That’s so cute,” Fiona cooed.
Viola filled me in on this story the other day, but I still found it so sweet. What looked to me like two people fucking for fun in the garage was actually two people unable to keep themselves from loving each other.
