“Coming,” Taylor said. “I’ll be there in a second.”
“Okay. Thank you!”
Taylor had a business to run. She knew she couldn’t spend any more
time moping and feeling sad about Christina’s situation. Taylor had made
Christina a promise in the coffee shop. Or at least, she’d convinced
Christina to trust her. Now Taylor would have to do the same.
Chapter 22
Christina
Even though Christina promised herself that she wouldn’t work
overtime, that’s exactly what she did over the next week. Michelle booked
her an impossible schedule, like she wanted Christina to make up for the
weeks she’d spent helping Taylor get her business up and running.
Christina had only had time to hang out with Taylor and Chloe on
Wednesday night and it was now Friday. She studied her overflowing desk
and realized that she’d have to text Taylor and tell her that she’d be playing
catch up late into the night again. Christina knew that she’d probably have
to come in on the weekend as well if she wanted to be ready for her
appointments on Monday.
Her neck ached and she massaged a cramp out of her shoulder before
reaching for a new file. It was just one of many in a giant stack and each
one took hours to go through. She’d definitely have to work the weekend.
Christina grabbed her phone. She held it in her palm for a minute,
staring at the black screen. She knew that Taylor would understand, but
she’d also be hurt. Christina had promised she’d have more free time
towards the end of the week. She hadn’t foreseen a few extra meetings
getting added on top of an already full schedule on Thursday.
Christina knew that she couldn’t text. It wouldn’t be right. She checked
