“You sure? You can come and stay with me for a while, if you want.”
Daisy managed a smile.
“I’ll be fine. Myra Brown’s been kind enough to let me stay here. We’re discussing what rent would be appropriate for my salary. She’s been so generous to me.”
“That’s one thing that you can say about Allison’s family. They are generous people to those who rightly need it.”
“Except Robyn. I wouldn’t call her generous.”
“Robyn can rot in hell. The rest of them, though, they’re great.” Marigold winked. “Especially a certain baker who made those delicious cupcakes at your wedding. I think you and I went through most of them between us. The boys certainly liked them.”
Daisy stiffened.
“What?”
“Well, Lee is a bit of a hunk. Just like the rest of his brothers. I’m surprised that a man like him who can bake hasn’t got a girlfriend. He would be a wet dream for any woman.”
Daisy cleared her throat. God, why did her clit have to throb at the memories of what Lee did to her that night?
“I wouldn’t know,” she mumbled.
“Wouldn’t you?”
“What’s the supposed to mean, Marigold?”
Marigold shrugged.
“I was just wondering when you were going to admit that you and Lee actually did the deed.”
Daisy was so stunned that she dropped her phone. Right on her face. Groaning as her nose started to throb, Daisy sat up, clutching at her face.
“Shit!”
“Daisy, you okay?”
“I’ll live.” Daisy picked up her phone and held it up, rubbing her nose. “I just dropped my phone on me.”
Marigold laughed.
“Not quite the reaction I expected out of you.”
“Why did you say it, though?”
“Because I know you did.”
“What?” Daisy squeaked. “How? Did Lee tell you?”
“Why would he tell me about it?” Marigold shook her head. “Daisy, you’re my sister. I know you. And I know when something’s happened. I might not be around much, but I’ve heard you talk about Lee a lot, to the point I was worried that you were cheating on Nick.”
“I would never do that.”
“I know, but you did get me thinking. Then when you texted me and said Lee’s sister was helping you out, I was sure something was going to happen. And the look on your face lately confirmed my suspicions.”
Daisy frowned.
“I have never said a word about it. How can you get all that from my face?”
“Because you blush when you’re thinking about something naughty.” Marigold giggled. “It’s been happening a lot since you told me about the new apartment, so I figured something had happened. Your reaction just now says I got it right.”
