Chapter Five
“Ican’t believe you’re actually engaged, Marigold!” Daisy couldn’t take her eyes off the beautiful ring on her sister’s finger on the screen. “I’m not even sure how that works when there are four of you in the relationship.”
Marigold laughed.
“You make it sound so sordid, Daisy.”
“I’m sorry. I guess I still don’t understand it.” Daisy shifted on the couch, adjusting her hold on her phone. The last thing she needed was to drop the phone right onto her face. Marigold would find that hilarious. “How are the other two guys not going to get upset that you’re getting married to just one of them?”
“Jake and Nathan were a couple before we made a foursome. They’re going to get married, and Darren is going to marry me. We’ll still be together as a poly relationship. Marriage isn’t going to change it. We’re just making it more permanent.”
Daisy was still confused, but she wasn’t going to argue over it. Marigold was an adult, and she knew what she was doing. Daisy didn’t think she would be able to do the same.
It felt like everyone was getting with more than one person. Marigold had three guys wanting to be with her at the same time, as did Detective Myra Brown. And Marigold’s friend Allison was dating two hockey players. How they managed it, Daisy had no idea. She was lucky she could negotiate one relationship.
Not for the first time that day, her thoughts ended up drifting to Lee. But Daisy pushed them away. She wasn’t going to think about him again. It just ended up making her miserable.
“I’m really happy for you, Marigold,” Daisy said warmly. “You’re having a baby, you’re getting married, and you’ve got people who love you. It sounds like things have lined up perfectly for you.”
“It’ll line up for you as well eventually, Daisy. You’ll find a guy who loves you for who you are.” Marigold giggled. “Unless you think you need more than one guy to satisfy you. It’s certainly an experience.”
“What? No!” Daisy shuddered. “I can’t possibly do that. How am I supposed to give attention to both of them without favoring one guy over the other?”
“That’s the thing. They’re the ones pleasuring you. You just had to let them love you.”
“That doesn’t allay my concerns.”
“I guess it can be complicated.” Marigold tilted her head, leaning back against pillows. It looked like she was in her bedroom. “Are you sure you’re okay? You’ve been looking a bit despondent lately.”
“I’m fine, Marigold.”
“Is it about Nick and Elena again? Are they still bothering you?”
Daisy sighed. God, she hated thinking about the two of them.
“Not lately. I sent them a legal letter to leave me alone a week ago, so I’m guessing they’ve received it as they’ve been quiet the last couple of days.”
“That could mean they’re planning something else. They were really angry that you screwed up their hijacked vacation and stuck them with the cancellation fee for the wedding.”
“They’re lucky I didn’t stick them for everything I paid for. I’m glad I got refunds on sixty percent of what I spent.”
Daisy wished it would be a bit more, but she understood a non-refundable contract. She didn’t even expect this to happen. Who would think their spouse would cheat and leave on the day of the wedding?
From what she had been hearing from Nick’s sister, he showed no remorse for what he had done. He was just upset that he didn’t get a free holiday and Daisy had taken everything she paid for, including most of his clothes. His sister had giggled at that after hearing Nick rant about how even his boxers and socks had been taken, but Daisy had bought most of his wardrobe. It wasn’t her fault that he didn’t pay for anything except his gaming systems and the TV to play them on.
It was a shame she hadn’t noticed something two years ago. Then maybe she wouldn’t have wasted so much time on him.
And maybe you could have gotten with Lee far sooner.
Shut up!
“Daisy?”
“Hmm? I’m here.”
“You looked like you were lost in thought there.” Marigold frowned. “I know it’s a stupid question, but are you okay? You’ve been through a rough time.”
“I’ll live.”
