“I’ve seen her around you. It’s pretty obvious. She’s a pretty hot woman, so I’m not surprised you’re drawn to her.”
“But she’s almost Myra’s age!”
“So what? Age has nothing to do with it. If it feels good, it feels good.”
Lee grimaced. He felt like he was under interrogation.
“I know you love being a cop, Keith, but would you not do that with me?”
“Do what?”
“Make me feel like I’ve done something wrong.”
Keith sighed.
“You’ve not done anything wrong. Except not tell Daisy how you feel about her.”
“Until two days ago, she was in a relationship with someone else! I wasn’t about to break that up because I needed to tell her something like that.”
“Now she’s single. Maybe you should. She’s in your apartment, after all.”
“Keith, she’s just going through a breakup. I’m not going to put that on her as well.”
Keith shrugged.
“Okay, fine. But if you don’t say anything soon, you’re going to end up pining for her for a lot longer.”
“Nothing’s going to happen. She’s not going to look to me for anything.”
“How do you know that?”
Lee growled.
“She just won’t. Leave it at that.”
Keith looked skeptical. Lee didn’t care what his twin thought. No matter how beautiful he considered Daisy, or how attracted he was to her, it wasn’t going to happen. As soon as he was able to, he was going to move somewhere else, where he wouldn’t be bumping into her and thinking about how hot she looked whenever she left for work. If he was lucky, the crush would wear off, and he could go back to normal.
But Lee had a feeling that it wouldn’t be that easy. He was more than likely screwed.
His cell phone started buzzing under the counter. Ignoring it, Lee finished folding the lid over and stuck a sticker on it to stop it from opening. Then he pushed it across to Keith.
“That will be fifteen ninety-nine.”
“I don’t know why you don’t let me have things for free. I am your twin brother.”
“And how am I supposed to earn money if my customers don’t pay me? If you support me, pay up.”
Keith rolled his eyes with a smile and got out his wallet.
“Only because you’re an awesome baker. Are you going to answer that, or are you just going to let it ring?”
“I’m not supposed to be on my phone at work. I should have turned it off.”
“You’re the boss. I think you can make an exception.”
Rolling his eyes, Lee retrieved his phone, only to pause when he saw Daisy’s name flashing up. He fumbled to answer it.
“Daisy? Are you okay?”
