“She was telling me that if I didn’t join her side, she was going to make sure my entire pack paid for it. We don’t have the power that your pack does. If the Grimhowls come for us, we don’t stand a chance.”

Laurel was low. Threatening Violet, and likely the other girls with displacement and ostracization, was despicable. And most packs were not strong enough to fight them if it came down to that.

“The Grimhowls seem to be making a major push to control the entire region. They want a member of their pack to be Supreme Alpha,” Violet said.

“I suspected as much.” Which meant Laurel’s ilk would come after my pack since the Ravenmoons controlled our territory.

“Was what she said about your grandfather true?” She blinked up at me. “Is he dying?”

I bit my cheek. “No. Of course not. My grandfather is as strong as the tides.”

“Oh. Good.”

But her tone made me wonder if she truly believed me.

Oh, moons. I needed to get home. Fast.

Violet pushed to the edge of the chair. “There’s going to be another game tomorrow, did you hear?”

“Huh?” I turned toward Violet. “What kind of game?”

“I don’t know,” she said. “They didn’t tell us, but they said it’s something big. With a big prize for the winner.”

“And a kick out the door for the loser?” I asked.

Violet shrugged. “Part of me wants to get kicked out. I want to go home.”

I put a hand on her arm, feeling like part of me was being tugged in two directions until I was coming apart at the seams. “Don’t we all, Vi. Don’t we all.”
