He shrugged. “Yeah.”

Then she looked completely disappointed because he wasn’t sharing more info. “Oh. Well…good. That’s good.”

Rather than say anything, he took a bite of the red velvet cupcake she had handed him. Lea—who was one of the partners in Meet Me at the Altar as well as their baker—made the absolute best cupcakes. He didn’t indulge in them nearly as much as he’d like and he realized that Maddie would probably enjoy them too.

“So…what were you two talking about when we came in?” she asked. “Something about spending more time with wives and girlfriends?”

Sitting on the corner of his desk, Xander was the one to respond. “We were talking about how we’re trying to figure out a better calendar for the three of us so we can have more weekends free.”

Her eyes went a little wide. “Really? I didn’t know that was something you guys were working on.” She looked over at her husband. “Why didn’t you mention it?”

Daniel had a mouthful of cupcake and held up a finger for her to give him a minute. “I didn’t want to say anything just in case it didn’t happen. I know you were talking about being more of a supervisor once the baby comes and not working as many events. If that happens and we can either hire more people or just reconfigure our schedule and when we offer training sessions, then we’d get to have weekends to ourselves.”

“Ooh…I really like that idea!” she said before turning to look at Xander. “I know Daisy’ll still be working some weekends. She’s the reason why Lea, Skye, and I aren’t working every event, so I’m not sure how much you’ll get to benefit from this change.” Then she glanced at Knox. “That leaves you. Can I safely assume that you’re in favor of the weekends off scenario so you can spend more time with Maddie?”

Ugh. He seriously hated all this sharing.

“That’s the plan,” he murmured before taking another bite of his cupcake. It was almost comical how much her face showed her disapproval that he wasn’t giving her more information, but he wasn’t ready to talk to her about it. In general, he just wasn’t someone who talked about his personal life and he certainly didn’t want to talk about it with his buddy’s wife.

“Can I just ask one more thing?”

He nodded. “Sure.”

“Can we please meet her? Even if it’s just a quick drive-by at Meet Me at the Altar. I promise we’ll all behave.”

Somehow he doubted that, but he kept that to himself.

“I don’t have a problem with that,” he told her.

He and Maddie hadn’t really finalized any plans yet. They weren’t seeing each other this weekend and were waiting until the next one to get together, but they weren’t sure if she was coming back to Raleigh or if he was going to Chesapeake.

Now that he knew how much the girls wanted to meet her, he was leaning toward going to Chesapeake so they could be alone.

But he kept that to himself too.
