Leo has been acting odd lately. Anyone can see it has to do with the new arrival to his family.
If we were friends I’d ask him about it. But we’re not friends.
Still, I can’t deny what April’s saying. He has been weirdly touchy lately, and his normally laid back demeanor has been replaced by a short fuse.
“And I wouldn’t ask but it’s my mom’s ring and she’ll kill me if—”
“Fine,” I say. Just stop talking.
“You’ll do it?”
I nod. “Where did you leave it?”
“The bathroom right off the pool area,” she says promptly.
I’m waiting for her to tell me his bedroom so this has me looking over at her with a frown.
“What?” she says, all coy and defensive. “We went skinny dipping.”
I roll my eyes.
So many ews.
“Someone probably found it while cleaning, so I’ll ask—”
“No, don’t ask around for it. I’ll be so embarrassed if they find out what we were up to and—”
“Fine,” I mutter.
“It’ll be there, I bet,” she says, all smiles now that I’ve relented.
“At least, just check there first, okay? If it’s not there, I’ll ask Leo about it.”
I nod, ready to end this annoying conversation. “Yeah, sure. Fine.”
She shocks me by giving me an impromptu little side hug. “Thanks, Savannah. You’re the best, you know that?”
She’s all but skipping as she heads in before me, leaving me to shake my head in exasperation.
April and her mood swings, I swear.
