I laugh a little despite myself, glancing up at him. “Now, who’s lying?”

He chuckles. “Let’s get you that coffee.”

I wipe my eyes. “I think I need something a little stronger than that.”

“I know it’s easy to say, but I know you’re gonna get through this.” He stands and I follow suit. Relief pours through me, even though that’s naïve since he hasn’t given me anything I can work with yet. At least he’s willing.

“You’re a fighter through and through, I can see that. I’m good at reading people, I have to be in this line of work. I know you’ll do anything for your sister, and right now, we need that strength. Can you stay strong for just a little bit longer?”

I take a deep breath and close my eyes.Of course, you can do it. Use that strength, the rage, the hate…I know I have to; my sister's life depends on it.

With renewed vigor, I hold my head high. “I’ll do it, Enzo. I’ll do anything you say to get my sister back.”

“Good,” he says. “The first thing I need to know is who it is. Who do you have to kill?”

I steel myself, swallowing hard as I follow him down the deserted walkway. “Angelo Medici,” I reply, my voice barely a whisper. “Head of the Boston Mafia.”
