"Josh!"I halt before I walk out of the door and look back when I hear Aimee scream for him. Josh looks back, and we both watch as Shayla collapses into Aimee's arms, holding her abdomen. Josh lets go of my arm and runs over to her, falling to his knees beside her.
"Shayla, hey, what is it?" He asks, watching her concerned while she cries out in pain.
"The baby," She whimpers. "Something's wrong."
"Okay, don't panic, we're going to the hospital. Come here." Josh says, helping her up to her feet, and she hisses, clutching her stomach and shaking her head.
"Josh...." Aimee whispers, holding up her hand, her fingers covered in blood. "She's bleeding." Josh and Aimee both look over at me as I stood watching, utterly frozen.
Shayla's wide eyes stare down at the blood on Aimee's fingers and gasps. "No, no, no. NO!" She screams, crying hysterically while Aimee wraps her arms around Shayla to soothe her.
"What the fuck have you done..." Josh lifts his blue eyes to look at me. I couldn't move. I couldn't tear my eyes off Shayla.
"Josh, do something?!" Aimee shouts, trying to calm a hysterical Shayla down.
"What are you standing there for?! Help me get her into the fucking car!" Josh exclaims, and I rush over to her side. Shayla looks at me with such anguish—the memory I had of her recently flashes through my mind.
"NO! Get away from me!" she shouts, hitting my chest and pushing me.
"Shayla, hey, calm down. We're going to get you to the hospital," Josh tells her. "It's going to be okay. You're both going to be okay." He reassures her again and again, but Shayla shakes her head sobbing.
"I can't lose her too, I can't, I can't. Aimee...." She cries into Aimee's chest, who presses her lips to Shay's temple, rocking her, her own eyes swimming in tears.
"Shh, you're not going to. You're both going to be fine. You and Alaia are both going to be justfine, I promise you." Aimee lifts her eyes to look at me and shakes her head disappointedly. "You're going to be fine." She whispers, tearing her eyes away from me again. "Josh, let's go." I numbly watch as Josh picks her up into his arms and rushes her out of the house.
I go to follow her, but Aimee puts a hand on my chest, stopping me. "No! Don't you dare! You made your choice, and now you can fuck off to it! You don't deserve her! This is the last time you wreck her because ofthatgood for nothing bitch, you hear me!" She bellows before she turns and runs out of the house when Josh calls for her.
I stand in the empty house, staring, stock-still at the door theyall rushed out of.
What did I justdo?
I glance around and down at the bloodstain on the white marble floor where Shayla was on the floor. My stomach clenches painfully. I pick up the wedding bandthatI took off and handed to her, which was lying on the floor.
"Ever Thine, Ever mine, Ever ours."
I fall to my knees, cradling my head in my hands.
"And I swear to you, in front of all our family and friends, thatI will make each day we spend together better than the last. I'm so in love with you."
I wince, and when I close my eyes, I see Shayla's face smiling up at me.
"Oh God," I gasp, shaking my head.
I push myself back up on my feet, my knees shaking as I grab my keys and rush out of the house.
My head was hazyas I walk over to my car. My heart, hammering against my ribcage so hard, I could barely catch my breath. I somehow manage to drive to the hospital, my mind running amuck as I replay whatjusthappened again and again.
My entire body is shaking apprehensively. If anything happens to either of them, I'll never forgive myself. I didn't intend for this to happen. I didn't.
I pull up at the hospital and run inside to the front desk. "Shayla Hoult, she wasjustbrought in. She's uh...pregnant."
"Maternity ward, fourth floor." The nurse tells me, and I race through the corridors. My heart up in my throat as I take the steps two at a time till I got to the fourth floor. I rush over to the nurse's station, panting.
"Shayla Hoult. Where is she?" I ask in a flurry, and the nurse looks at me, startled.
"Relation?"
I hesitate and look at her, trying to catch my breath, "I'm her..." I drop my gaze to the floor, unable to finish my sentence.
