Page 27 of Love Me Again

"YET!" I scream, shoving him away from me. "But it will. It always does. If you've started lying to me and texting her behind my back and arranging get-togethers, it's only a matter of time."

"Do you not trust me?!" He barks hotly, and I look up at him disbelieving.

"Trust?" I intone. "You want to talk about trust? Okay, tell me truthfully, hand on your heart. Did she try and kiss you? Or did you think about kissing her? Were you tempted, Cole?" I ask and hold my breath waiting for him to tell me to stop being stupid, that the thought didn't even cross his mind...but he didn't. He just stares back at me apologetically.

"Oh God." I exhale and turn my back to him.

Cole sighs and turns me to face him again. "Shayla, listen to me. You have no idea how much I wish I could remember all my moments with you. I'm trying, but it's so frustrating being told by everyone how much I loved you and having no recollection of it. I woke up one day seemingly four years in the future with a girl I've never seen in my life, telling me she's my wife and is pregnant with my baby." He explains, shoving his hand through his hair.

"In my mind, it's 2016, and I have a girlfriend named Sophie, who I was falling in love with." He tells me apologetically. "I can't imagine loving anyone but her."

I gasp, look up at him and shake my head slowly. "Cole, I'm trying to understand, but please, I'm begging you don't drag me through this whole Sophie mess again," I plead with him, and he shrugs. "I can't do this again."

"I love her."

"No, you don't! You love me, Cole!" I exclaim, looking up at him, tears spilling over my cheeks, and he just stares back at me blankly.

"No, I don't!" He shouts back. "I'm attracted to you, yes, but I don't love you, Shayla!"

"Yes, you do! I'm the one you want to be with, not her! Are you not listening to a fucking word everyone is telling you? You don't love Sophie; you hate her for lying to you and trying to trap you, Cole. You married me! I'm having your baby! ME!" I shout, shoving him away from me. "God damn it!"

"Cole, don't listen to Sophie," Josh tells him, and Cole glares at him.

"Stay out of this, Josh!" He growls hotly before he looks at me again. "I've tried, okay, I have, and I'm sorry, but I can't force myself to love you, Shayla. I can't."

"Cole, don't do this to me again," I whisper, shaking my head, tears streaming down my face while he looks at me ruefully and shrugs.

"I'm sorry, I am." He states, taking his ring off and hands it to me. I gasp and stare at it as he turns and walks to the door.

"Cole!" I call out, and he turns and looks at me. "You turn your back on me and walk out of that door, don't think for a god-damn second this baby and I will be here when your memory comes back," I tell him gravely, and he walks over to me and stares into my eyes.

"Don't fucking threaten me!" He shouts, glaring at me.

"It's not a threat. It's a fucking fact!" I scream at him.

"Suit yourself. I don't want you, and I don't want your baby!" Cole growls angrily, and I take a step back like an invisible force just shoved me.

“Then go, Cole!” I shout, pushing him back. “What are you waiting for?! Huh? GO!” I sob, throwing the ring at him. We stood glaring at one another furiously, and every step he took backward made my heart clench painfully. I release the agonizing breath I was holding when he turns his back and walks toward the door.

Aimee comes rushing over to me. I feel my heart beating in my ears.

"Cole, stop! What the fuck are you doing, bro?!" Josh shouts, pulling him back. "That’s your fucking wife. She's carrying your baby."

I stare dazedly at the ground while everyone shouts around me, trying to catch my breath. I hiss and hold my stomach when I feel a sudden cramp. "Josh, let him go!" I shout, shaking my head when I see Josh following him to the door, trying to stop him from leaving.

"Shayla?" Aimee holds my arms and looks at me when I lean over. "What's wrong? Are you okay?" I cry out when I feel another sharp pain in my stomach.

"Ahhhh!"

"Josh?!" Aimee screams when my knees give away, and I collapse into her arms. Josh looks back and comes running over to us.

"Shayla, hey, what is it?" He questions in a flurry while I cry, holding my stomach.

"The baby..."
