Keanu jerked his attention to Advic. “You kissed her?”
Advic slowly smiled. “It was impromptu.” He sat on the edge of the bed again and picked up her hand. “It was nice.”
She wanted to yank her fingers out of his grip, but there was no reason to hurt his feelings. Also, as usual, she liked the way he touched her.
She swallowed. “It was nice. A bit too nice.” She kept her voice calm. “It doesn’t change anything I said, Advic. I’m not interested in a relationship. Not with one man, and not with three.” She shifted her gaze to Keanu. “I’m sorry if I’ve given you all the impression something could happen between us. It can’t. I’m not wired that way.”
Keanu gave her one nod. “Then we should probably pick up the pace on your recovery so you can get back to your life.”
She thought she heard a note of snarkiness in his voice. Was he angry? Probably disappointed, both at her proclamation and the fact that Advic had kissed her. She stared at Keanu’s lips for a few seconds, wondering what it would feel like for him to kiss her too. If only life were simple and she could kiss all three of these men for the experience and walk away without hurting anyone.
But it wasn’t. Life was a fucking disaster.
Keanu stepped closer, pulled the covers away from her leg, and unwound the bandage. He didn’t speak while he held her leg up, examining it closer. He even shoved the covers higher around her thigh and poked on her muscles there too.
Maya held her breath, reminding herself he was simply being clinical. This wasn’t a sexual experience. At least not for him. He was a doctor. Doing his job. Making sure her leg was healing.
He lifted her knee higher and bent her leg as far as he could before she winced. After releasing the pressure, he did it again.
Maya gripped the covers at her sides and held her breath, not wanting to let on she was in pain.
“Can you flip over onto your stomach for me?” Keanu asked.
She nodded and then let Advic help her roll over as Keanu pulled the blankets out of the way. She flattened her forehead to the pillow and tucked her arms under her, fisting her hands at her shoulders.
It was impossible to ignore the fact that her T-shirt had ridden up and her panties were showing. She wouldn’t reach down to cover herself. She wasn’t a prude. She was fine. It wasn’t like they could see her bare bottom.
Keanu examined her calf again, his fingers dancing over the skin, poking and prodding up and down the wound. “It looks really good. No infection.” He lifted her leg and bent it as far as he could before she gasped. “The only way to get you back on your feet is physical therapy and exercise.” He released the pressure and did it again. “It’s going to hurt, but one of us needs to do this several times a day. The more often we stretch your muscles, the sooner you’ll be on your feet.”
She nodded into the pillow, unable to speak. It hurt like crazy, but she knew he was right at the same time. She didn’t want to lie around in this clinic or in these overbearing men’s bedrooms for much longer. If she did, she feared she would lose her resolve and end up in a more compromising position than she’d been in just minutes ago with Advic.
As it was, she was never going to forget the feel of his lips on hers. The way he made her melt as he sensuously nibbled along her mouth. The stroke of his tongue…
Jesus.
Keanu was still flexing her leg. The pain was lessening too. Focus, she told herself. On the leg, not your lips.
Advic’s hand came to her hair, stroking through the length of it. “I know you want to get out of here, but don’t overdo it. One day at a time.”
Keanu’s hand landed on the back of her thigh as he eased her heel closer to her butt.
She closed her eyes and gritted her teeth. How the hell was his touch also sensual and making her clench her pussy?
He held her leg for several seconds and then repeated the action.
Finally, she needed him to back off. It was no longer about her damn leg. Once again, he was awakening something in her that was best left dormant. As soon as he eased her leg back flat on the bed, she rolled away from him and tugged her shirt over her panties. “Okay. Okay. I get the point. I need to stretch it. I can do it.”
They both stood next to her frowning. Hands on their hips.
“Would you like me to rewrap it? Or you could probably leave the bandages off now if you’d prefer. One of us will take the stitches out later today.” Keanu stated.
“Leave it.” She grabbed the covers and tugged them over her legs, up her waist, and over her breasts, giving her a barrier. She didn’t need them to notice their collective effect on her. She didn’t like it. She didn’t want this feeling. She couldn’t process how her body responded to them. It overwhelmed her.
“We should do that every few hours, hon,” Keanu said in a soft voice.
“Great. Could you both leave now? Isn’t it the middle of the night? We can do therapy session number two in the morning.”
“Of course.” Advic hesitated and then reached over and squeezed her hand. “Get some sleep.”
She groaned as she realized what she was asking of him. “I’m in your room.”
He shrugged, one corner of his mouth lifting. “It’s okay. Keanu has a big bed. He won’t mind if I catch z’s next to him.”
Keanu grunted as he opened the door and stepped out of the room.
“Advic…” She let his name drag out.
He glanced back at her as he followed Keanu. “I don’t mind, baby,” he whispered. And then he was gone, shutting the door behind him.
