“I will hold you to that.”
“Anyway, I have something for you to do, specifically, and you cannot tell anyone.”
“Oh?” His interest level has just gone up by a hundred percent. Poor boy must be bored stupid fucking about with trying to run my business when his skills are better put to use elsewhere.
“I spoke to Scar yesterday, after I saw her in Liverpool. She admitted to me that she’s involved with four guys…”
David tries desperately to hold onto his laugh for all of two seconds, but it does not work. He laughs so hard, he is practically crying. “Oh, my fucking God! Cassie is going to have a shit fit! Does she know yet? Wait, dumb question. She would be here already if she did…”
Chuckle, chuckle, snort, snort.
I wait patiently while he yuks it up at our expense.
“Sorry,” he gasps eventually. “Go on.”
“Well, so glad that my sister and I could provide you with some entertainment…”
More guffawing.
I roll my eyes and growl.
“Sorry-sorry, please go on…”
“Right,” I grit out. “The main guy is called Maxwell James.”
He goes serious in an instant. “I’ve heard of Maxwell James.” He purses his lips. “Rumored to be the head of a secret society or something?”
I nod slowly.
“I met him when Adam and I went to try to get him into an exclusive, members only club.” I press my forefingers and thumbs together to make a diamond shape with my hands. “Solitaire. You’ve heard of it?”
“I have. Globally renowned as the elite of the elite. Have to be invited, etc. It’s not like you can rock up and ask to be let in.”
“Well, we rocked up at the one in Liverpool and apparently, they were more than welcoming to both Adam and myself. However, Adam’s membership is contingent on me joining the Manchester sector. I wasn’t going to bother, but I think Adam deserves better than that after everything he did yesterday.”
David nods in agreement.
“So, will you find out everything you can about the one here, who’s who in the Manchester sector. As soon as you can. I need to show my face like, yesterday, but I want to know the players and the board before I set foot in there.”
“Consider it done. What about this Maxwell guy?”
“Well, I want you to dig up everything you can on him. The deepest dive you can accomplish. I don’t care what you have to do to get me the dirt on this guy. Along with a man called Tristan Scott-Parker. These guys are dangerous. Really dangerous and while Scar says she’s aware of who they are, I want to know exactly who she’s gotten into bed with, so to speak.”
“Okay, what about the other two?” he asks, writing it all down in his hand-dandy digital notebook.
“I only have first names, but I’m sure you can connect the dots between them and the other two, yeah?”
He scoffs. “Of course.”
“Miles and Hugo.”
He narrows his eyes at me. “Hugo… Rings a bell out that way. This should be a piece of cake.”
Smiling serenely, I drop my feet to the floor and put my shoes back on. “You are the best little hacker in the whole wide world.”
He grins, the excitement rolling off him in waves.
Standing up, I lean over the desk and kiss him quickly. “I’m going to open up and see if we can drum up some business. Will you get some staff in, please, as soon as humanly possible? I don’t want to sit out there all day.”
