“Already on it.”

“You’re a gem.”

Waving at him as I leave, I head out to the bar and sigh at the doom and gloom atmosphere. I worked so hard to get this place to where it was and the last few weeks, even more so the last few days, it’s all gone to hell in a handbasket. My heels clacking loudly in the silence, I make my way over to the front doors and slide the locks back. I open the door and jump a mile.

“Benn,” I exclaim. “You scared the shit out of me.”

He lowers his hand from where he was about to knock and gives me that cheeky grin. “Ramsey rang. Guess we’re back in business?”

“Yeah, sorry for, you know…being shut and everything.”

He snorts and shakes his head. “Don’t worry about it. David still paid me.”

Letting out a soft laugh, I say, “Figured as much. Come on in.”

I turn and he follows me inside, going straight to the bar to set up for the day. He, too, is a gem. I hover and wait for The Banker to arrive, knowing he won’t be long. He will be as eager to get this handover done as I am.

About five minutes later, I decide to head back to my office. Layton will be gone by now, hopefully after he cleaned up after himself. Giggling as I push open the door to my office, I see everything in order. I sit at my desk, thankful that I didn’t have any papers or folders laid out.

Moments later there is a soft knock, and the door opens.

The Banker sticks his head inside. “Hey.”

“Hey, Ray. Come in and sit down. I need to know everything.”

He slaps an enormous briefcase on my desk and opens it, pulling out file after file, which makes me sigh inwardly. This is going to be a long-assed afternoon.
