HAWK
I'd never felt peace like this. After all of the arguing with my relatives to be who I wanted to be, everything with Lila was simple.
Tasting her sweet, fresh pussy had been the highlight of my existence up till now, but it was her soft cries and the way her fingers curled gently around my ears that made me realize.
She was the one.
Lifting her in my arms, I wrapped her in the towel and brought her back into the bathroom. Running some hot water to warm up the tub, I held her hand and helped her slip back in.
Looking around on the floor, I found my phone, then held it out to her. "Which shelf?"
"To go in front of the big south window?"
"Yeah – I was thinking we could spread out the stuff from the other shelves so it wasn't as crowded, maybe add some plants."
"I'm fine with either, but I think the darker wood might look nicer."
"Done. I'll be back later with dinner." I kissed her forehead, then left the apartment with a spring in my step.
Good God, I'd gone domestic.
This was not what this year was supposed to be about. I was supposed to be running wild and finding myself and doing whatever else men did when they were on the verge of a midlife crisis and trying to extricate themselves from family obligations.
I should have been buying a bright red sports car right about now.
Too late. Lila had me hooked. I wanted nothing more than to have dinner with her on the couch and find out about her life, getting her to open up to me.
Several hours later, we were doing exactly that, except Lila wouldn't really share anything about her past.
"Tell me about that all-girls university," I said. "Is your family super religious or something?"
She shook her head. "No. It’s just where my mother went."
She popped another piece of broccoli into her mouth so that I couldn't ask further questions for a few moments. After asking several more questions about where she was from, and her family, I realized there was no subtle way to ask her to lower the wall she had around that part of her life.
"Hey," I said gently, placing my hand on her knee. "I can tell you're running from something. I just hope that you're running toward something good."
Those incredible deep blue eyes stared at me, then she whispered, "Me too."
"I'll help you any way I can, Lila. But I can't slay a dragon if I can't see it. Do you know what I mean?"
I held out my arms, and she snuggled into them. "Yes. I'm just not ready to go there yet. Is that okay?"
Stroking her hair, I murmured, "Absolutely. You take all the time you want. Just know that I want to keep you safe and happy."
My lips dropped to her hair. "And of course, I'm wildly curious. Until you say otherwise, I'm going to assume that you are the princess of some country I've never heard of, and you're not ready to accept the crown or something."
She spun, raising an eyebrow. Apparently I’d struck a nerve.
"Of course, you could also just be hiding here to keep your new boyfriend away from everyone," I said, trying to sound serious. "Just one look at me, and you're terrified that your seven sisters and forty-two cousins might come running to steal me away."
Lila's giggle was pure delight.
I grabbed the blanket from the back of the couch, wrapping it around her as we curled up to watch a movie. It was the perfect Sunday night. Now if only I could get Lila to unload the rest of her secrets so that we could start this relationship properly, I would be the happiest man on earth.
I just hoped that they were secrets I was prepared to deal with, since I hadn't told her mine yet.
