“Good book?” I asked with a grin.

Rylee looked up at me and smiled. “It’s not bad. Are you okay?”

“I’m more than okay,” I told her. “In fact, I’ve got a special evening planned for us. I want you to come with me someplace.”

Rylee’s eyes widened and her brows furrowed. “What kind of special evening?” she questioned.

“Uh, uh, uh,” I replied, “that’s a secret. If you want to know, you’ll have to come with me.”

Rylee laughed. “Okay, okay, but what about Jayden?”

“Your mom is watching him for us.”

“You’ve thought of everything, huh?”

“Yep,” I told her with a big smirk. “Now, can I take you out?” I offered her my arm and she took it. I reveled in the feeling of her body against mine and I knew we were going to have a magical night ahead of us.

We headed together in the direction of the resort lobby. The stars above us were twinkling brightly and the moon was full and hung low. The atmosphere around us was quiet and still. When we entered the lobby of the resort, I saw Rylee’s eyes light up and she began eying up the various number of places to eat that were there, but we bypassed them completely. Instead, I took Rylee to the elevator.

When the doors opened, we both stepped inside and Rylee looked up at me confused. “Where are we going, Spencer?” she asked.

I smirked again. “You’ll see.”

When the elevator finally stopped at our destination, the doors slid open to reveal the most stylish and modern looking penthouse I’d ever set eyes upon. The living room had sleek silver tables and dark gray furnishings. There was a cubic pattern rug on the marble floor and every wall wasn’t a wall at all. It was made of glass creating a spectacular view of the entire resort, the beach, and the sea beyond.

“I rented the penthouse so we could have some privacy for one night,” I whispered into her ear as I watched Rylee take in the sight. Her mouth was gaping and she was entirely speechless. I pressed my hand to the small of her back and guided her out of the elevator and into the luxurious suite.

“This is gorgeous,” she finally replied as she gazed around the room and her eyes took in the décor. Now that we were inside, I could see the table to our right had been laden with a variety of delicious foods including chocolate covered strawberries and lobster, alongside chocolates and flowers such as pink roses, white lilies, and a rainbow of carnations.

I could see Rylee’s face light up in a smile as her gaze fell upon the flowers. “These are just incredible, Spencer. How did you know these are my favorites?” she asked.

“I might have asked for a little help from your mom,” I admitted with a smile.

She turned to me and pressed her hand to my cheek. “How did I ever get so lucky to be with someone so thoughtful?” she asked in awe.

I pulled her close. “About the time I got lucky enough to be with someone as beautiful and funny and kind as you,” I retorted with a sincere smile. I leaned down and pressed a tender kiss to her forehead before turning away from her and toward the glass doors that led out to the balcony.

“Come with me, darling, the view is incredible,” I told her before taking her hand and guiding her outside.

The moon was still hanging low and full over the sea and I hugged her close to me as we both gazed out over the scene below us. It was peaceful and the cool breeze only made us cuddle closer together. It was possibly the most serene moment of my life.

“Wow, Spencer,” Rylee gushed, her cheeks flaming bright red. “I can’t believe you arranged all this for me.”

I smiled and kissed the top of her head. “Well, I have an ulterior motive,” I admitted with a wink in her direction. “You see, Rylee, I have something very important I need to ask you.”

Her face fell to a look of disbelief as I dropped to one knee right in front of her and pulled out the box in my pocket. I opened it up and held out the most beautiful diamond ring from Tiffany’s. It was a solitaire cut with a two-carat diamond of excellent clarity placed in the center. I grinned up at her, feeling more excited than I ever had before in my life.

“Rylee Bratton, you are the most wonderful woman I’ve ever met. I love you with all my heart. Please would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”

I noticed Rylee’s eyes were wide and she was tearing up at the proposal. I was waiting for her to accept, but she didn’t say a word. Instead, she reached out and took my arm, helping me to stand.
