The command sent a thrill through her that settled in between her legs that shouldn't have. Resisting the urge to shift at the forbidden discomfort, Sapphire closed her eyes and focused on the heat of their hands.
Sapphire groaned in her sleep and tried to twist out from the grip holding her. Everything was so hot and heavy around her. Hot, so very hot. Like a weight sitting on top of her burning her from the outside in, stealing her breath.
She let out another little noise of displeasure.
"Tell me you have a shirt or something on underneath here, baby?" The voice asked almost as breathlessly as she felt.
Joel?
The grip moved to her back, and she frowned. She was so hot, and the world felt so heavy around her. Why was it doing this to her?
"Oh, thank Christ," Joel groaned against her ear, his warm breath fanning against her hot skin.
"Shh, baby, don't fight me. Let me help you," he murmured against her ear, and she felt his weight behind her holding her against him.
Didn't he know it was too hot for this? Opening her eyes, the darkness moved around her. Confused, tired, and covered in overwhelming heat, Sapphire closed her eyes and lay boneless in his arms.
"Get her pants," Joel panted against her as he pulled at her clothes. "You’re burning up, sweetheart. Let me help you."
Cool glorious air suddenly hit her chest, and she sighed gratefully. Feeling the fabric being pulled down her arms, she smiled at the cool exposure. Opening her eyes halfway, she watched again as the shadows moved before her, and this time, she could make out a face she would know anywhere. He was right there hovering between her outstretched legs, his dark mop of hair hiding his eyes as he pulled at her pants.
She reached for him and whispered his name happily as her fingers speared through his hair.
Grey eyes cut through the dark and stared up at her with surprise. Sapphire smiled dreamily back at him, where he hovered above her hips.
Heat of a different kind pulsed through her as she felt Joel's hard chest stiffen at her back, where he held her up.
Again, she whispered Hayden's name, but her eyes became too heavy to keep open.
"Fuck," he cursed deeply into the dark, and she felt the unbearable heat on her legs rip away, allowing the glorious cool air to soothe her skin. "Go to sleep, Sapphire," his voice sounded almost pained.
She could see no reason why she should argue and did just that.
Hayden held his breath as the bed shifted next to him. There were so many things his mind conjured from fantasy to absolute desperate need he thankfully couldn't focus on any of them. All he could do was focus on the facts, something that also made him painfully hard to do.
Instead of opening his eyes, he listened with all his other senses as she moved next to him. Being in the middle meant there was only one real way in and out of the bed without straddling either one of them. Fucking hell, he cursed himself for even thinking it. Using every last drop of willpower, he forced the image from his mind and returned to the facts. He felt the covers gently shift around him as she extricated herself from their warm nest. Carefully almost painfully so, he felt her scoot down the middle past him, every now and then grazing her smooth skin against his. In his mind's eye, he could see her black and purple underwear against her golden skin as she stood up from the bed.
He thanked God he was sleeping on his side, and she could not turn back to see his dick standing at full mast.
Hayden stayed perfectly still and listened. The door had not opened or closed. Was she standing there looking down at her half-naked body, wondering what the hell happened? Was she doubting them right now? Staring at them both with horrified accusation? Hayden wanted to jump up and assure her that they did not touch her no matter how much-
Nope. Nope just fucking no. Don’t think it, he ordered himself.
Finally, the sound of the door closing so very softly made it to his ears, and Hayden deflated into the bed.
"I don’t think I got even an hour of sleep last night," Joel suddenly spoke. His tone dry and lifeless.
Opening his eyes, Hayden looked at him across the big bed and winced at the haggard look on Joel's face. It looked as if he had spent the whole night like that, just lying on his back and staring at the ceiling in regret. Hell, he probably did.
Still not trusting the state of his dick, Hayden stayed where he was and stared unseeingly at the empty spot between them. "Me either," he admitted. Actually, he didn't even get an hour of it. Scrubbing his face with one hand, he let out a groan. "What the fuck are we going to do?"
Joel pulled his pillow out from beneath his head and stuffed it over his face before letting out a muffled reply. "I don’t know."
Sitting up in the bed, Hayden cast a hard stare at the area in front of the door. Last night they almost came to blows with each other right there. "We gotta stop this."
Joel sat up abruptly, letting the pillow fall to the floor. His eyes glimmered with challenge even through the obvious fatigue. "Stop what exactly?"
Hayden gave him an exasperated look. "Fighting. What the hell else? Unless you somehow like it. Cuz, I sure as hell don’t."
